Brian Needham Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 what about choosing the sunglasses you like and getting the RX in them? I know costa does it and other companies do too. 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 18, 2014 Super User Posted March 18, 2014 Your regular glasses aren't designed to block out peripheral light, so they won't block out glare coming in around your lenses at all. That really limits how well a polarized lens can work. There are quite a few companies that offer prescription polarized sunglasses. I'd look into those since they'll be WAY more comfortable and will shield your eyes better. Otherwise look into getting some contacts and then just wear regular sunglasses. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted March 18, 2014 Super User Posted March 18, 2014 Take 2 pair of the clip on sunglasses, turn one pair 90 degrees and look through both pair. Light should not pass through. If it does they aren't polarized. The darker it is the better the polarization. Quote
I.rar Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I use the amber tinted cocoons over my glasses. They're big and ugly but they work great for fishing and driving. I've been thinking about getting contacts. Last time I wore some was like 13 years ago. I would assume they are more comfortable now than they were then. Quote
reb67 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I wear glasses as well and I wear Solar Shield fit overs from Wal-Mart or walgreens they have many different sizes and lens colors cost about 20.00. I use amber polarized most the time but I do use polarized gray early morning when the sun is really bright Quote

I've got a crazy astigmatism that doesn't allow me to wear major brands but even the ones that I have I love wearing way more than glasses unless I'm really tired. Quote
slainempire Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 thanks for the suggestions. i think im gonna try the solar shield fit over for the time being until i can afford a better option. Quote
BeckieC Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Try your eye doctor's office, lots of frames have clip-ons available that are specific to that frame. If not, look into a 2nd pair of glasses, lots of the big name sunglasses can have the plain lenses replaced with your Rx and you will be able to get some that block the light from the side. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 20, 2014 Super User Posted March 20, 2014 I wear flip ups not clip ons. I start fishing well before the sun comes up, my flip ups are always on and no need to carry anything extra. Depending on my angle to the water, the chop or ripple, and the position of the sun I sometimes see better without them, I'm always flipping them up and down. There is no denying that glare at times is apparent from the sides, I'm real used to it. I prefer to tie knots without polarized glasses and I don't like driving my car with them I can't see the navigational system unless I flip them up. Wearing progressives as well as having a pronounced astigmatism, I haven't found a better system for me. I have gone with prescription progressive polarized glasses, doesn't work as well for me. Cocoons work pretty good. Quote
Nicky Greece Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I looked for a good pair for a long time... never came to be. Next time you buy glasses look for a place that does a buy one get one free deal. I got a nice pair of sunglasses in my RX and had them polarized. Quote
The Fisher Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I have astigmatism and wear graduated bifocals. Contacts don't do it for me. I bought a pair of Maui Jim's at my local eyeglass store and they were able to fit my prescription into polarized lenses into them and they are definitely polarized. It's expensive which is why I always have Croakies attached so they don't fall off. Quote
