aharris Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Some of you may have seen my other post about chatterbaits and how I just don't have any confidence in them. Well, I have confidence now...to say the least. I had about an hour to kill this past Friday so I went down to a little private lake and I told myself, "self...I'm throwing this chatterbait for a solid hour. I'll either catch them or I won't." Well...I caught them. I caught two GIANTS...and probably 3 more over 4lbs with a few smaller ones mixed in. This is no magic lake. I'd actually been told earlier that there were no fish in this lake but now obliviously...I know different. Pic of them side by side and a little vid of each. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaOI3rfALkw&list=UUQwbIIQJh517jtdZmL0n3Sw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAfLJSDDCO0&list=UUQwbIIQJh517jtdZmL0n3Sw 2 Quote
RipSomeLips Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I did something similar this last week. I had said on the forums that I have no confidence in spinnerbaits. So I forced myself to use only them and I caught 4 fish over several hours. A 4.5 pounder and a 3 pounder plus a couple small ones. Your fish look great! I have not really used chatterbaits much but you have inspired me to try them this next week. What kind of retrieve works best for you? Quote
aharris Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 I was changing it up a lot. Slow rolling it, kinda jigging it and burning it. The majority of the strikes came when I was slow rolling it. Quote
gripnrip Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Congrats! Bladed jigs are just another tool in the box. I use them in all phases of the spawn as well as a spinnerbait. Quote
RipSomeLips Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 The same happened for my spinnerbait presentation. Tried all kinds of retrieves but all my strikes came on the slow roll. Quote
boostr Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Nice fish. Never had a problem with spinner or crank baits, but this year I'm gonna try Chatter and plastic baits. It's all about time and patients. Quote
georgeyew Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Nice. I had my best day on a chatterbait last fall. Got about 20 fish in about 5 hours. I can't wait to get back out there with the chatterbait and have another record day. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted March 17, 2014 Super User Posted March 17, 2014 Nice fish on the chatterbait. I have never fished one before but I have two in my bag Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 22, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 I was changing it up a lot. Slow rolling it, kinda jigging it and burning it. The majority of the strikes came when I was slow rolling it. I've caught a lot of big fish the last couple years on bladed jigs, 95% of them are while reeling as slowly as possible. What color were you using? Congrats on the great day! I bet it was tough to leave! Quote
aharris Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 oh yeah, I didn't want to leave. I was using white with a white paddle tail frog as a trailer. Quote
gnuisance Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Those are some hogs. Congrats. I'm getting familiar with the chatterbait as well. Seems like a great bait, I love how well you can feel it through the rod. Quote
