I considered getting an even longer Swimbait Rod, but the rod lockers in my Lund Fury are for rods with a 7'6" max length.I hope it will be long enough!I will be using this to throw my (4) Black Dog G2'sStill to buy in 2 weeks will be a LEWS BB1 Pro PS1HZL Left 6.4:1 for $199.99, to go with it.I actually will be getting (2) LEWS BB1 Pro PS1HZL Left 6.4:1.The other reel will be for my shallow running crank baits.I will let you know how I like the rod. I want to use the best 20lb Fluorocarbon line, that man has yet produced. I just am not sure what that would be. Dont care about cost. The only rule is TW needs to carry it. Quote

I am chainging my reel to a Lew's Super Duty. SD1HL Left 6.4:1 7.8oz 10SS + 1RB 12/150 $179.99 I figure the Super Duty might be better for swimbaits. Would you guys go 17lb or 20lb line? Starting to think 17 might be a bit better. Update: Never mind... Looking at Tatsu, it is either 15lb or 20lb line. Back to 20lb Tatsu line. Quote

VolFan Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I think you're wasting good flouro and $$$ putting Tatsu on there, but it's your world. 20# Yozuri Hybrid, PlLine PF, or Big Game work as well as anything, and hurt less in the wallet. I have no experience with CXX, but I think Speed and Franco probably know what they're doing. Again - the flouro probably won't hurt you, but would only help much if you're trying to crank them down. The 7'11"H is great with 2 - 4 oz. for me - I don't fish A-rigs much (feel like I'm throwing a hdwe store) but I have cast them with this rod and it does real well with that weight range. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted March 17, 2014 Super User Posted March 17, 2014 When I was researching my swimbait rod, I dug up an old post on Swimbait Nation from the guy who designed the Okuma Swimbait rods. I don't remember the guy's name, Mark something I believe. Anyway, he said that the 7'11"H was designed to be a hard bait rod for treble hooked baits. He said it was more moderate than the other swimbait rods in that lineup and not a good match for 8" Hudds and the like. He recommended the 7'6"H or the 7'11"XH for heavy soft baits and the 7'11"H for hard baits. Not sure if any of that applies to this thread but I thought I would throw it out there. Quote

Honestly, 20lb is even a little overkill if that is the only bait you are going to throw. Save yourself some cash, throw some 15lb Big Game or CXX with those and be done with it. You'll notice a marked difference in action going with the lightest line you can comfortably get away with. Take it for what it's worth. Quote

Especially if I see a follower. Flouro sinks, and you'll get a bow in the middle, between you and the bait. I get this "disconnected" feeling that I don't get with a good copoly, like CXX. Speed is right, 15 is probably fine. I just happen to have 20 on that rig, since I throw baits up to about 4 oz. Quote

It will be one of these now: P-Line CXX Crystal Clear 300yd 20lb - $11.99-or-Yo-Zuri Hybrid Fishing Line Clear 275yd 20lb - $14.99 May even drop down to 15 or 17lb. I think the Yo-Zuri Hybrid is now my front runner. Thaks again for the input! Quote
