The Bream Reaper Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 yup...they found a way. I still have yet to catch one even on the potomac in some of the creeks where there supposed to be in there pretty thick. But then again I'm not catching any bass this year on the potomac either so I probably need to go back to the drawing board all together and pull out my mickey mouse edition zebco set up. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted August 25, 2014 Super User Posted August 25, 2014 Rough weekend out there.....spent a few hours out there Friday out of Fountainhead and I was skunked while the wife boated exactly one - it was a nice 3.6, but still just one fish for 4+ hours was sad. Saturday was even worse - I weathered the downpour out of Lake Ridge all afternoon and got skunked once again. Quote
Eddie-NoVA Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Took a buddy that just got into Bass Fishing on Saturday morning. Launched from Bull Run Marina and water was chocolate milk and up from the recent storms. A lot of people head down past the splits to get into clearer water. I fish my usual spots that hold fish in the morning and just change my baits accordingly. The way I see it is, the water is up and fish will move shallower to eat. Water temp was 71* and covered water with chart/white spinnerbait. After a few casts caught a 4.5-5lb that gave a nice fight. Continued covering 2-5ft of water and caught a handful. Moved further down toward the splits and fish were hugging cover. Creature baits produced strikes on the fall many times. Marked a TON of bait balls toward the bottom, but no fish with it. My buddy only caught a dink since most of the time he was catching leaves from trees. lol. He was happy he didn't get a goose egg. Never a bad day on the rez. 2 Quote
FinesseFishing Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Anyone gone out today? I was thinking about heading to the reservoir tomorrow morning. Quote
big poppa Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 My dad and I spent about 8hrs out there with only 7 bass and a 5lb catfish to show for it. All fish were caught on jigs that I hand tied. 1 Quote

Thanks BP. Info helps. I don't know anyone in the area so I don't have buddies to fish with. I emailed a local club inquiring about membership but they haven't replied. Quote
Eddie-NoVA Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Planned on heading out this morning but had too many things to do. Will try to make it out in the morning for a couple hours. Quote
Eddie-NoVA Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Went Saturday morning. Was having a difficult time fishing fish and getting bit. Was getting afraid of getting a skunk on the boat this year and caught two from the grass on brush hogs. Water temps up 10degrees from previous week (85). Didnt get a chance to head south into some deep water. Hopefully next week will change for me. Quote
FinesseFishing Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I will be tomorrow. This will only be my 3rd visit to the reservoir since moving here so I'm still getting a feel for it. Last two visits I didn't catch much, but I'm sure that will change over time as I familiarize myself to it. Edit: Turns out I won't the wife got called into work. Oh well, I guess there is next week. WDinarte Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Y try my good luck yesterday at fountainhead park with the canoe ( after work ) for the sunset. I was only able to land one fish LMB under 3# I was more to try a double blade paddle for the canoe for solo trips but have some pull was nice, have fun guys and good luck. Quote
Huntrava Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 An evening squall shut things down at the reservoir a bit early tonight. That last hour is usually my money maker. Caught fish all day long using small soft baits, micro jigs. A couple of largemouth that were 1+ lbs. Fun, but nothing big to report. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted September 8, 2014 Super User Posted September 8, 2014 Sounds like you had better luck than I, Huntrava. I had a challenging day Saturday. Trolled up from Fountainhead. One keeper on a deep crank. No other good bites. Fished jigs, cranks, big plastics....worked some shallow cover and probed ledges and flats.....gave in to the heat around 1:30. Quote

We must have just missed each other. I was putting in from the Fountain Head launch at 1:30. Be sure to wave next time you see a guy in a red kayak with a green milk crate on the back! Shallow cover was good for me, particularly the shady areas near the docks. Quote
big poppa Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Saturday launched out of lake ridge and got 5 keepers for about 12lbs on football head jigs. Sunday caught two dinks on a swim jig. Im starting to see bass suspended and schooled up. I wanna start throwing the A-Rig. Has anyone had any luck with em in the rez? Quote
s freud Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Went out today and caught 5 dinks. Thanks to big poppa, I tried my 8" worm on a football head hook which got me 3 and a nice one that got away. Two others were on 15' diving jerkbaits and one hit two feet from me pulling The lure out of the water. Went out before sunrise but caught nothing on buzzbaits or frogs. Fun day though. Water has cooled to about 76. Quote

Yes that was me. I was trying to make the 8:00 gate time as well. By my watch I rolled out at 7:58. Fishing was alright. Good topwater action near sunset with poppers. I let me new PB get off the hook :-( 1 Quote

Super User Choporoz Posted September 15, 2014 Super User Posted September 15, 2014 Went out from about 2:30 to 6:30 yesterday, trolling out of Fountainhead. Beautiful afternoon, but fairly slow again. I'm pretty committed to becoming a better jig fisherman, so I may be limiting myself and not trying hard enough to find a sweet-spot lure. Caught a three pounder and a couple dinks. Broke one off that I must have hooked beyond or around a branch. Just sat for a bit and then took off and almost immediately snapped my 15# hybrid. I did miss a few really had jig bites, but I'm getting a little more confident each time out. I tossed a blue DT6 that I got from Lucky Tacklebox and promptly caught a 5# cat. Seems crazy - I had a cat on a DD22 just two weeks ago. Don't think I'd ever caught a catfish on a crankbait before these two. 2 Quote
