macmichael Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I am right handed, left eye dominate, and I reel with my left hand. How about you? Quote
fishguy613 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 im right handed, i reel with my left hand and hold the rod with my right when using spinning and casting tackle 1 Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I am right handed, left eye dominate, and I reel with my left hand. How about you? Me too. I cannot fish with a normal baitcaster, must have one that reels left. 1 Quote
FlipnLimits Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Right handed, cast right, and reel right. I didn't know this was not the norm for many years. My fishing partner laughs and says I'm not as efficient as him but before the lure lands, the rod is switched to the right hand. FL 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 I am right handed, left eye dominate, and I reel with my left hand. How about you? I'm right handed, right eye dominant and I spin the handle of a casting reel with my right hand. However there are no sights on any of my rods, so the eye dominance factor really doesn't come into play . . . . A-Jay 2 Quote
Jtd1216 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I couldn't figure out why I felt so awkward when I switched from my left reel spinning setup to a bait cast setup. It's because it was right retrieve. everything I purchased after in bait cast was left retrieve. I couldn't understand why I would want to keep switching hands after casting also (because I cast with my right hand). Quote

A-Jay Boy, are you behind the times! I'd get to BPS and pick some up before ice out. My casting accuracy went up 83% when I mounted mine on...especially on my jig rod. 2 Quote

donk Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I am right handed and fish all lefty reels. It just seems natural to set the hook with your dominant hand. I would actually love to be able to fish righty or lefty for the days tendonitis makes even holding the rod painful, kinda like a switch hitter so to speak. Quote
macmichael Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 Yous Guys!!!! I thought my eye dominance might be a factor in which hand I reel with. Smarty pants. 1 Quote
fishinthedacks Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Left handed. Most my reels are right handed I just flip the rod over though because my whole life that's what I'm used to. I just got my first left handed reel which is a bait caster. It feels odd having it set up this way. Quote
Flatfish Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I'am backwards I guess, Left Handed and reel in with my right Quote

RipSomeLips Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 It's hard to find left handed bait caster's so I am training myself to cast left handed. I am a rightie but have always done the switch over because I didn't learn any better as a kid. Quote
JLeon77 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Never understood why baitcasters were backwards from spinning reels. Once I started with a baitcaster I used a left hander even though I'm a righty. Just makes sense to me, but it does make finding reels difficult sometimes. I couldn't figure out why I felt so awkward when I switched from my left reel spinning setup to a bait cast setup. It's because it was right retrieve. everything I purchased after in bait cast was left retrieve. BryanBrown Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I'm left handed, left eye dominate, cast left and I reel with my right hand. Also, I play golf from the right side, but I bat left handed. Quote
edfitzvb Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I am right handed. I reel spinning reels with the left hand, reel bait casters with the right. I learned it that way and don't have any problems. My son is left handed, started on spinning reels using mine. I bought him a left-handed model (back before designs made it an option for any reel) He continues to reel left handed on spinning reels, also left handed on casting reels. This is PROOF that I am more versatile...... 1 Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted March 17, 2014 Super User Posted March 17, 2014 Right handed, cast right, reel right with a baitcaster. With a spinning I cast right and reel left. I've never had a problem doing either, so if it ain't broke don't fix it! lol Also, I palm my baitcasters, those of you that cast with the right and reel with the left do you do the same? Just wondering because to me not having used one it seems like it'd be hard to cast with the reel palmed. 1 Quote

I do, I've never been known to have a light hook set either....just ask those that have sat in the back of my boat when I haul water on one and the bait comes flying back whizzing past their head! Hooked_On_Bass Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I write left handed. I cast with my right hand and reel with my left. Quote

I know it well When flipping and pitching, with the slack in the line and a second to compose before the hookset, I'll swing with both hand on the rod and reel. My old partner always said it sounds like a golf club swinging away. Especially with a 7'11 generating the speed. Quote
