Basspro Shops Soft Plastics

  Next week I will be driving through Nashville and I plan on stopping at the BassPro Shop store in that city.  It's the only chance I get to visit a BassPro Shop since the two BassPro Shops in Indiana are too far away from me. 

 

 I want to buy a few soft plastics made by BassPro Shops.  I'm interesting in plastic worms, lizards and creature baits.  

 

 So are there any that are well known or more popular that I should get?  I don't have any BassPro Shop lures in my collection at all.  So I would like to pick up a few bags but I'm not sure what.

Their XPS cranks are great.  I'm not a huge fan of their soft plastics.  A lot of people like the Stik-Os.  They're like a senko with a fatter tail section to give the bait a wider wiggle.  The baits need this extra built in action because the plastic is stiff.  I like their Punch Hogs as a follow up bait to frog blowups.

I picked a pack of their 10 inch ribbon tails to give a try this year. They are very similar to the zoom ol monster worm but a little over a dollar cheaper. So if they turn out to be good I'll be buying some more. That's the only one that I really found that I like. Off topic but have you looked at any of the Missile baits? They make some good stuff that you can't get everywhere.

My recommendation is to get their 241 piece all pro bass kit. It is a great value. Item #1844317. It has a good assortment of plastics for $21.99 It also comes in a 3700 series box which is nice.

The 5 1/4" Stick O is my go to wacky rig and shakyhead bait. Their magnum Finicky worm is a good weightless or shakyhead worm also. I've done pretty well on their tubes and prerigged swimbaits as well.

Shopping the BPS soft plastic section is easy.  Just bring your VISA and plan on a couple of hours wandering and looking.  As soon as you gravitate to the soft plastic section, grab a basket.  Walk up & down every aisle and throw stuff in your basket.

They make good plastics. I like their ringworms especially and the tubes.

Tubes, tubes and more tubes. The heads tear easily but they seem to work more than any other tube that I have tried.

I have a box of them and I've been having a hard time keeping them running true like how the Ribbit frogs can.  May I ask how you compensated or how you rig them?

I didn't like the Jerk Shad, not the ones you get in a package but the one with the wide tail.  I find the plastic to hard and have caught no fish on this version, the other Jerk shad is much better.  That is my only knock on that kit.  I've caught fish on the other baits though in the kit.

Hrm you didn't find it flipping over at times?  I used a standard EWG though (Gammy).  I got annoyed if I didn't keep reeling in, it would just flip over.

It does flip over at times, and I haven't found a toad in that class that doesn't. The beast helps, as does the screw lock. I will fish an Air Frog most of the time (uprights itself) but the frog is my favorite in the BPS plastic lineup.

Maybe I'll try the twist lock hooks and see if that reduces the flipping over issues.  I've been using keel weighted hooks it helped the flipping but I didn't want it to sink as much as it did.  Thanks for your input!

I fish the 3 inch tender tube, 4 inch magnum tube and the stiko. I like to stock up when on sale.

BPS tubes are probably the best tubes of any brand out there.  I like the creature baits like the bull hog and river bug.  I still prefer a senko over a stiko but stikos are a lot cheaper and do work and have good colors.  They have a new swimbait that looks like a Keitech that swims great too.

The only one of their soft plastics I use on a regular basis is the Stik-o.  They catch fish, and they don't tear up as quick as a senko.  I did have some issues with their flukes a few years back, so I tend to stay away from those now.

I've never really used any of their plastics except the stik-o's and I can honestly say they are not very soft and they don't seem to have much action. It's possible based on the other comments that bass pro has since corrected this issue but I just wanted to give my honest opinion.
