bassguytom Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Has anyone used these yet? It doesn't seem to make sense to me. It looks like they are just trying to get some more sales. Why not just use a lipped crankbait? Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 I've been gluing the rattles in my rat-l-traps for year. In the spring the bass don't seem to want loud baits. For the past two weeks I've been rotating between a quiet squarebill and a silent lipless and most days the bass prefer the lipless. I don't know why but they just do. 2 Quote
SneakySnook Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I bought one from Gander Mountain for $2 and have to say it was the best $2 I have spent. Great lure for the summer and fall. Quote

The two baits are night and day apart. The sounds each make are the least of their differences. If you have a tremendous amount of confidence in lipless cranks and want to throw a slient bait then the silent Bil Lewis Rattle Traps should be at the top of your list. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 You've got to remember that even a so called "silent" bait is not silent under water. With the hooks, split rings, and hook hangers it's making a little bit of noise. You also have to remember a bass has a lateral line that picks up vibrations in the water. The silent lipless crankbait still gives off vibration it's just a different vibration than one with rattles. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2014 I've had some very good days in clear water lakes with the silent RES. Quote
