Kevinator1 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Hey guys, I've got a baitcaster that every once in a while when I set the hook or pull the line real hard will break loose and the handle will spin backwards (drag is very tight otherwise) ....I replaced the anti-reverse bearing but it still happens occasionally....Could the pinion gear be involved in this also? It doesn't look too bad but I'm stumped. Thanks, Kevin Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 Make sure the IAR bearing is very lightly lubed with oil, not grease. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 If the pinion/main gear slipped it would be toast. Like ghoti said, flush the AR bearing and oil it very lightly with a swab. You can check the AR sleeve as well to be sure it's not damaged. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 My experience tells me that if the handle in actually spinning in reverse, that you still have an anti-reverse issue. Even with the gear train disengaged, the handle should not move in reverse, so that would eliminate your pinion gear possibility. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 Clean out the AR bearing, use a q-tip wetted with bearing oil and swab the pins with it. Also check the sleeve that sits inside for hair cracks at the tabs or base. (drag is very tight otherwise) Then when repaired back off the drags "there are no reels manufactured today that can handle direct drive drag settings" they all have a fail safe installed.. Just the .02¢ of an old tech... Tight Lines! Quote
