Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 I brought home some nice rainbow trout the other day and I don't have any idea how to cook it. Lol Any ideas? I cooked one whole with lemon/dill seasoning and butter in the cavity wrapped in foil baked in the oven. It was Ok but not my favorite. I tried to fillet another one and fry it. It was lots better but I wasted lots of meat getting all the bones out. Quote
Maico1 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Pan fry it with butter then pull the bone out after it is cooked. One of my favs is to stuff them with Crab Meat. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 Gut it, remove the head and tail and then wrap it in some aluminum foil with some butter and lemon juice and put it right in to a fire for a couple minutes. That is my favorite way to eat trout. The meat just pulls right off the skin. I like it better in the fire than in the oven. 1 Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 16, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 16, 2014 I've got one in the smoker now. I put a lemon/ dill seasoning on it with lemon slices and some butter then loosely put some foil around it. I also have a corned beef smoking so if the fish sucks I'll eat that. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 16, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 16, 2014 no way id ever put fish in my smoker Y? Quote
jhoffman Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 One I am not a huge fish fan. Ive also read that if you hot smoke fish, the oils will end up in your smoker and other meals can have a fishy taste. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted March 17, 2014 Super User Posted March 17, 2014 deep fried trout /w some sort of Cajun breading. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I will only eat them filleted. When I cook them I grill them on a salt plate or cedar plank then add lemon pepper or other spices. The salt plate is the ticket though. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 21, 2014 Super User Posted March 21, 2014 Get a dehydrator and put your seasoned filleted trout in for approximately 24 hours. Remove and enjoy with your vender pack Slim Jims...LMAO! 1 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 21, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 21, 2014 I've found the best thing to do with Trout is to give it away! Quote
jhoffman Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Best thing to do is put em back, catch them another day or let someone else catch and eat them. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 22, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Best thing to do is put em back, catch them another day or let someone else catch and eat them. 99% of them don't survive in our lakes once the water temps warm up. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 22, 2014 Super User Posted March 22, 2014 This month's issue of Field & Stream has a rainbow trout recipe. Looks awesome. Quote
