Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 Going to give one or two of the casting models a try. Can find $30 cheaper on ebay than at TW, but they want $20 shipping on ebay. I don't want to activate my paypal, and TW has always been reliable. Would rather pay them the $10 extra. Of course, I could always wait for the next sale.....which is when? Thanks. Quote
Arv Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Personally, for 10 bucks I'd go with TW. I just know they, a. are a real company (not that there aren't reliable places on ebay) and b. have solid cs. I think the next sale is memorial day though. 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 Simmons Sporting Goods on Ebay is a reputable dealer. I have bought things from them without ever having an issue. BTD is having a 20% off sale right now, but unfortunately they only carry the Exo, not the Smoke. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 15, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 15, 2014 I've bought from Simmons before. I'll check if they have Smoke rods. Thanks. I've already gotten a couple orders from TW this winter. A favorite place to shop. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 $120 shipped From Simmons http://www.ebay.com/itm/QUANTUM-SMOKE-SKC705F-7-MEDIUM-ONE-PIECE-BAITCAST-ROD-MICRO-GUIDE-SERIES-/400663521426?_trksid=p2054897.l4276#ht_2366wt_1035 Great rod. What you thinking of getting? Id suggest the 7' Medium Fast. Its just 3.4oz and has very good balance feel in hand with 6oz or so reel. 1/2 5/8 and I have thrown 3/4 oz lipless cranks with it. Its good for wacky senkos, 1/4oz-1.0 size cranks, 1/4-3/8 jigs/trailer What weight reel you looking to put on? I have Core50(the reel that stays on it), BB1 Pro, CI4, CU50, Tatula. One of those in your weight range Ill post a pic of where it balances for you. Do you know it has the ACS grip some dont care for it so just heads up there. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 Well I looked and think read you have a 51E here a pic with 50E on smoke 7M/F Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 15, 2014 Super User Posted March 15, 2014 Up north. I belive Wacky Worm has some Smoke rods but their 20% off sale ended last week I go to Wacky Worm, you can't be that far from me. While many dislike Quantum, the Smoke rod is one I call a sleeper, not really talked about but they are legit. I have a 7'MH-F that I got for my spinnerbait set up and so far I've fished jigs, and T-rigged worms and senkos and it has good sensitivity and deceptive power for a rod that light and I have no clue if it is the micro guides as right now it is the only rod with micro guides that I own but it is a decent rod. Am thinking of getting the 7' MHF and 7' MM. The 7' MF sounds pretty good too. Ashamed to admit this, but I don't know the differences between reel seats. Would have to have someone point out the differences. I do have rods from several different companies so I'm sure I have examples of several different grips. I know only Daiwa uses the grips that are on their Zillion rods. So far none bother me. Could give a list of my rods if that would help. Reels I will use? Don't know yet. Would like to keep it fairly light. The 51E is going back on my 6'10" MF Smallmouth rod. Think I will leave it there. However, I have several other choices. Fuego, Sol, Purple Alphas, Lews TP, TD- Z 103ML, T3 1016H, T3 MX 1016XHL-TW, Patriarch XT, Alphas ito 103 ai., Heck I could even pull the TD-Z 103H Type R off the rod it is currently on. A little heavier duty reel on that rod would probably be better anyway. I have 2 Carbonlites and a TD-Z 105H, but those reels will be staying on the current rods they are mounted on. I have them set up for light lures. EDIT: I did just get a Curado 201E7. I suppose that could be an option for the MHF rod. Oops. Forgot about my Premier. Haven't decided on a permanent home yet for that reel. Right now it is on a custom 7' MHF RX8. Quote

Too bad I don't pay close attention to this type of detail. I am too busy casting. Quote

I belive Wacky Worm has some Smoke rods but their 20% off sale ended last week When aren't I a day late and a dollar short? Example: Held off several days on the used T3 1016H. Finally gave in and bought it. Now the reels are on sale for less than $200 new. I'd sell it and buy a LH model, but couldn't possibly get my money out of it now. Maybe a few years down the road after they become a sought after item. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 FYI the rated rod weight for7' MHF 3.9oz and 7' MM 3.5oz Quote

I still want the 6'10" MH-MF casting and 6'9" MXF spinning Smallmouth rods. Need to seriously consider selling a couple rods and several reels. Last week I did return the Prodigy spinning rod I bought last fall to make room for the 6'9" MXF. Progress even if others would think not. Never sold a rod or reel yet....can't consider a return as selling! Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 16, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 16, 2014 FYI the rated rod weight for7' MHF 3.9oz and 7' MM 3.5oz Thanks. I never see a rod's weight listed. Where do you find the weights? I asked about the Quantum Escalade HD rods at Dick's in another thread. A friend thought they might be a version of the Smoke rod made for Dick's. These rods are VERY light. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 On the 7MF I weighed that myself. I also have the Quantum 2014 guide that lists the weights. They dont show the Escalade rods though. I looked and the Escalade has the QX48 blank that is a different blank from the Smoke but similar to the Response. DSG lists the rod weight as 4oz MH/F http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=33262186 Quote

If you are going to sell some rods, I was wondering if you would consider selling me your 6'10" M-F Elite Tech Smallmouth rod, I still don't have it but I do like it very much and I have my sights set on a different rod but if that rod suddenly comes up for sale somewhere I know I'll be on it. Super User South FLA Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 Don't get one with Micro guides, although its my primary rod for frogging, I replace guides on it like my kid eats cheerios. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted March 16, 2014 Super User Posted March 16, 2014 I never gave the Smoke rod that much of thought especially what the local guy informed me...they have a lot of "broken rod" returns. I did think about one last year but then opted out when I was given that advice. I will definitely say I'd like how light they were. Plus it was on clearance too at 99.99, they didn't want to carry them anymore and trying to get rid of their inventory. Guess I'm such a good customer they didn't want me to walk away with one of these. FYI - I'm in Ontario Canada, so the shop wouldn't be close to you plus ordering online would probably be hella expensive because of shipping. I'm still unclear why shipping from Canada to US or vice versa it is such a big rip off. Quote

Sorry, Dan, but I really like this rod. It ain't going anywhere. I have used it for a variety of lures. Really liked it with the 51E so that is the reel I am going to put back on it, and keep it as a permanent combo. Rods and reels I would sell would be from my lower priced gear (generally speaking). The 7'6" MHF Villain isn't exactly cheap at $180, but isn't a rod I care for. I do like my ML Villain spinning rod, tho. I throw a lot of lures in the 3/8 and 1/2 oz. range, and the Villain just doesn't load well enough with those weights for any kind of distance. If I lived in Florida, it probably would see heavier weights and get used a lot. Don't really need that heavy of a rod up here. Besides I have several other Heavy rods that will throw a 1/2 oz. lure just fine. Don't get one with Micro guides, although its my primary rod for frogging, I replace guides on it like my kid eats cheerios. I thought they only came in micro guides. I am not particularly fond of micro guides, but have had communications from a couple guys on how light, sensitive, tough and under-rated these rods are. I suppose I should be worried about breakage, but have never had a rod break under normal conditions. Falling face first into a pile of rocks isn't a normal condition. That was the only time I have broken a rod. 1 Quote

HAHA, I may live in this Country but I sure miss home. (American Citizen living here, married a Canadian). I really want to move back, been trying to convince my wife if we can move to the Georgia/Florida area. Quote
