Which Rod??

So I have some funds that came in and I have a chance to get a new rod.  Im looking at the dobyns extreme spinning rod, I have read great reviews on this rod. But i could get a 2  bps carbon lite rods and a reel for that amount of money.  I have seen some bad reviews on the bps rods but not too many.  so the ones that have the experience with both  whats your imput.

I just picked up two Carbonlites, a spinning model a bait casting model.

 

Fished with them several times now. Absolutely love them. So light and balanced. I have a Chronarch 50e on one, and started with my Lexa 2000 (spinning) on the other, but changed it out for one of my Stradics which took a couple more ounces off the weight. So the two are by far my lightest combos which will mean longer fishing for me.

Was in BPS the other day the guy told me they get a lot of returned broke carbonlites I was going to check one out for my casting not spinning need but I took his word and didn't get one. Never know till you try it for yourself.

I'm friends with the fishing manager at our local BPS, he's a big St. Croix guy, but was very positive on the Carbonlites, not seeing a lot of returns, older models had some issues, though.

 

FWIW. Like Memphis said, "Never know till you try it for yourself."

I would do the value rod option personally, but i like to have quite a few setups ready to go, and don't want to shell out 400+ for each of the 30 ish setups i feel like i "need"... maybe someday, but that day has not quite come...

I have had a carbonlite for 2 yrs now, it is a spinning rod. Love it, for the price it cannot be beat. I think however though the Dobyns would be a great rod for that price range. It is not really comparing apples to apples, decide what your looking for.....A great average joe daily rod then carbonlite would be my answer or if you want tourney/enthustists rod then go with the dobyns.

A better comparison for you would be a carbonlite to a dobyns savvy. Is it worth the extra? Some say yes because the better QC(over qaulity of the rod) and customer service alone for the dobyns, IMO performance would have to be judged out on the water side by side. Also I see you like smallies, many guys rave about the Fenwick Elitech smallmouth rods throw those in there to compare for good measure.

I have a 6'3 g loomis bronzeback for that particular need.  I just wanted something for different varieties like drop shot , shakey head single hooks(jigs,senkos, spinnerbaits etc).

I had a carbon lite and snapped it on a hook set took it back got a new one ..I don't have any now but I did like the rod really light and sensitive . Who cares if u break one as long as they give u a new one lol

Fished both the Carbonlite and the champion not the champion extreme but the Carbonlite are a really good rod for 100$ and I liked it more than my champion. I belive Dobyns is all hype. It's a great rod. Just not like like everyone says. I would say get 2 Carbonlite and there warranty is great even after 1 year they will still replace it. Just MHO

Rare that most people get the chance to buy a high end rod. I think you buy the best you can afford or you'll question it all the time. A versatile DX model will cover just as many applications as a Carbonlite, and feel better doing it. Does having two rods compared to one really diversify your lineup?

I've taken two rods back to BPS for breaking. Both without a receipt and they exchanged them no problem. One was only a day old, the other I think was over a year. But, your BPS may vary.

As for good rods vs many combos, if you are just building your arsenal I would go with many combos. To me, having different combos for all my presentations is way more important than having the best gear. Now that my arsenal is pretty much built out, I'll start buying/replacing with the better gear.

I think you made the right choice!

Well, since you already made your choice, I won't try and convince you to buy a DX. The Carbonlites are certainly a nice rod. Personally, I always get the best I can afford because I wind up wondering 'what if?' if I choose the good deal over what I actually want. Enjoy your new rods!

Yeah I am usually the same way but I felt it was more important to build my arsenal at this time.  It was a close decision though and im sure in the future i will try one,  but am very excited about the rods i chose
