Drop shot plastics

Hey everyone!

I wanted to see what you guys use/prefer when using drop shots, what plastics? I am going to finally start using this technique this season and wanted to get some ideas. (Sorry if this is a redundant question, I tried searching for this topic before posting just had problems with the search, I am on a very weak Internet signal here.)

What size flukes and slug-gos? I am guessing like the tiny flukes? Also, have you tried using small tubes when drop shotting?

6" Straight Tail Roboworm with their 1/0 light wire Rebarb hook.

Pick the colors you like. I'm usually throwing Ehler's Edge, Martens Madness, or Morning Dawn.

I fish a drop shot as more of a casting technique most of the time, instead of under the boat. I Texas rig the worm so I can throw it in and around cover.

You can drop shot anything...........and I have. But unless I am "bubba shotting", I tend to stickto more finesse type plastics. My rotation of baits is: Zoom tiny fluke, zoom finesse worms, 4" and 6" roboworms, 3" and 4" senkos, assorted smaller gulp stuff, GYCB shad shape worms, and probably a few other things I can't think of right now.

Nope. 4 1/2" Slug-Go, standard Fluke. I think the Live Magic Shad is 4".

You can pretty much use ANY soft plastic on a drop shot rig.  Adjust hook size and weight to match the bait and conditions.

last time I went fishing (december.. I think) I was drop shotting all day. I used two things with success; a jackall split tail shad, and a 5" wacky rigged senko. Both brown, pretty successful day.

I rely heavily on the 4" staight tail Roboworm (Aaron's Magic) a lot. Followed closely by the 3" sluggo (yep, nose hooked - you'll never find a better minnow replication on a drop shot) and then the Hud Helgramite.

Just started playing around with the "stinky" Chompers 4" worms. Only thing is, when I open a pack, my partner threatens to throw me overboard! The garlic stench is intense! And the smallies like it - a lot.

I have maybe 200 pounds of soft plastics, there may be 40-50 shapes, styles, colors and types of soft plastics in those pounds and in practical terms all of them are dropshotable so, use whatever tickles you fancy to dropshot, there 's no right or wrong.

I experimented with drop shot fishing alot last year.  I carried 4 and sometimes 5 rods rigged for drop shot fishing, from extra finesse to bubba weight.   Most of the time, I had the "bubba" drop shot rig in hand, i.e. a 7'6" fiipping stick rigged with 20 lb fluorocarbon and for the most part a 1/2 ounce drop shot weight.

While I caught fish on a wide variety of soft plastics, the most productive baits by far were a senko type imitator and a crazy legs chigger craw.  Regular senkos proved way too fragile for me, so I fished YUM dingers or BPS stick-os or any of several other imitation senkos.  Something with a thicker, more durable plastic.

The Gulp sinking minnows worked great, but they dried up quickly if they weren't in the water all the time.

I'd imagine that this coming year, the drop shot will be my go to technique for any water deeper than 15 feet or so.  I also got bit quite a bit in shallower, dingy water.

Alright, thanks for the advice fellows!  I will spin the wheel of soft plastics and see what I come up with, hahah!

One last thing, I have been looking through the BPS catalog trying to get a "spring order," put together and I have noticed  the regular "ball," drop shot weights, but they also have some finesse weights.  They are like just pegs if you will.  Any opinions?

If you are going to be casting and/or dragging your dropshot rig go with the finesse weights, if your going to fish the rig in a more vertical manner, get the round.

Power Team Lures has come out with a bait that is great for drop Shoting, the Finicky Tickler. This 5" worm has great action on the drop shot and they all are impregnated with a special scent that will make your fish hang on longer. June bug is my favorite.

What style and colors do you use of Roboworms?  I am interested in picking some up.  I found their website and the worms look pretty good.  I like the ribs sticking out of the sides.

my personal favorite color is "morning dawn chartreuse" aka pink with a chart. tail. but they all work the same, i just like the pink and green.  ;D
