I have an Australian Shepherd too.  I've taken him a couple times but he's got so much energy and it's hard for him to resist running off and exploring on his own.  I'd like to take him more but it gets to the point that I spend more time looking to see what he's doing than I do fishing.  Here's a couple of pics with him and my wife with his first fish.  He nearly jumped out of his skin when she set the hook and he realized there was something alive on the end of the line.

Our golden retriever has been going with me since she was just a puppy.

Took her first trip in the boat when she was 4 months

Now she about wags herself in half when she hears the garage door open because she knows we're going fishing. She does really well in the boat, doesn't get too excited. If you hook a big fish she'll lean her head over the side to look at it, but I've never had her do much more than sniff or maybe lick a fish. This is about as much excitement as you'll see from her when you put a fish in the boat.

Usually she's much more interested in what's going on along the bank, or taking a nap. She sits in my seats on her butt like a person would a lot of the time, pretty funny looking.

Son took his family dog in the boat and the Aussie jumped out into the water.

So no, no dogs in the boat.

Nope. My dog is neurotic. Going fishing is one of the ways I escape from her for awhile. I love her, but she drives me crazy.

My 12 yr old lab has gone with me since she was a pup.  I trained her to lie down when the motor is running, but when it's off she has free rein of the boat.  We've had great times on the water--she's my favorite companion.  She's very sick now--I've taken her to the vet the last few weeks...I'm afraid we won't get to fish together this year.  Don't know what I'll do.

I take my Catahoula/terrier mix to all my outdoors stuff.  Someone abandoned him and three brothers and sisters at my deer lease during the last week of hunting season and I just couldnt leave them there.  I found homes for the other three and kept Duece.  Duece love riding in the truck and boat.  He has his own spot to hide from the sun under the steering wheel.  He's a good boat guard.  If he knows you he will let you close to the boat.  If he doesnt know you, he lets me know, and he not obnoxious about it.  When Duece barks- something aint right!  He had his first experience with a deep diver crank bait last time we went out...  I guess when I was pulling the crankin stick out of the rod box he was sniffing it and it got hold of him on his nose  cause he was runnin around and around the back seat trying to get away from it yelpin like crazy!  He hasnt tried to sniff anything I pull out of the rod box since.

I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and if I had a boat he'll just fall out because he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.  Then again I love him, and he loves me plus every other person.

I take my Boston with me sometimes. My Shiba Inu stays home, though. She will jump off the deck without warning. Once, my Siamese cat was hiding in the boat and went with me, lol. He was actually pretty cool about it.
