Berkley Fireline Fused

I got this on closeout brom Cabelas in the 14 and 10 lb test  which has the line diameter of 6 and 4lb and was going to use it for drop shotting and more finesse situations.  I figured the slimmer but strionger line would be ideal.  After I received it, it wasn't what I expected as it feels and looks like braid.  Not sure if it floats like braid?  Won't know until I hit the waters.  Anybody use this stuff and is the application I plan on using it for appropriate or should I just ditch it and go with some 6-8lb flourocarbon.  I just hate flourocarbon because of memory especially on spinning gear.

I use Fireline on all my spinning reels. I buy it in 1,500 yd spools. It is made from the same material as most superlines so it does float. Instead of the strands of fibers being braided together, they are fused.  Like all braided lines, it doesn't stretch. It's a liitle stiff when you first use it, but it softens up as some of the coating wears off. It will also look like it is fraying a little bit after it's used for a while but not to worry, it is still very strong. Again, like all superlines it will loose it's color.  The fused lines work very well on spinning reels. It holds up very well I can get a couple of years out of the line. At some point I remove it from the spool and turn it around so the worn, discolored line is now at the bottom of the spool and the line is like brand new again. I absolutely hate the stretch of mono and fluoro lines so this does what I want it to. Not everybody likes Fireline, but it's my favorite on spinning reels.

Well, we'll see how you like the line, but carry another spool of something else just in case.

I didn't know Berkley was still making this particular formula. A lot of guys, me included, gave

it a try years ago and for most of us it was "one and done".

I used Fireline on spinning gear for a few years. My only complaint was that it didn't cast as well as I would've liked. The line didn't seem to flow off the spool smoothly and my casts weren't as long as I wanted. Otherwise, it was good; strong line and great abrasion resistance to wood and vegetation.

I love and hate Fireline.  To make a long post short, the stuff is indestructible but behaves badly in all other aspects.  All this talk about it being a superline when compared to mono is just the overstating of very average behaviors for a braided product.

 

I'd recommend #20 or #30 Sufix 832 as an alturnative.  #14 Fireline is actually a #28 ish product as Berkeley want's to rate it at 50% of it should be.

 

I still use #14 as a deep cranking line.  Stay away from Fireline Crystal.  The stuff is garbage.

I use it for certain spinning applications.  It cuts through weeds like a razor blade.  Overall, for me, it has it's place and I like it but it's place is not everywhere and everything.

I had a friend spool some on a reel of mine after my braid got low and he casted it all off. Wasn't really happy when he did it I'm a power pro fan. However I didn't have any complaints. I found it to be like others said strong and manageable. I used it for around 3 months before selling the reel it was on and no complaints here. I'd use it if I were you.

I used Fireline for years and liked it just fine.  I still use 20 lb on a Carolina Rig reel.  But there are braided superlines available these days that handle even better on spinning gear and are stronger with much smaller diameter.  Of course, they also cost a lot more too!

 

Don't worry - be happy - just go fishing!
