Tennessee Anglers Need Help

Hello I'm taking a road trip with my family to Tennessee in August. We'll be staying in Memphis, Nashville, and (most of our time) in Gatinburg. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on lakes to hit on the way or any lakes that might be around us. I'm coming from oklahoma so I'm a blind squirrel hoping to find a nut on this one. I usually fish for bass but from research I'm assuming that fly fishing is very popular.

Also if anyone has any recommendations on any entertainment you enjoyed while in these cites it would also be much appreciated.

We've only lived here bout three years but what I know bout that area you will have no problem entertaining the family. It's geared for the tourist. As far as fishing that time of year...not sure. Fly fishing for trout is big I understand and they stock it and as fas as bass in August you do have Douglas but I understand it fish's deep. There are some smallies in the rivers too close by so you might want to pack a set of waders and try that. Sorry couldn't be more help

Reelfoot lake, Kentucky lake,Percy Preist, Old Hickory (my home lake), Center Hill, Dale Hollow, and multiple rivers  are all gonna be on the way. once you get to Gatlinburg you have Douglas lake right up the street for some great fishing, in Gatlinburg there are plenty of trout streams, but closer to pigeon forge is the little pigeon river, which has trout and smallmouth stocked in it, just be sure to check regulations. A lot of the rivers and streams are single hook only no treble hooks and no live bait or scents. Now that thats over with, in Memphis be sure to check out Beale street, and graceland if thats something you are interested in, Nashville has a lot of cool places downtown, and the grand ole opry / opry mills ( which is where Bass Pro is  ) is a short trip.In Gatlinburg there is also plenty to do (especially if its your first time) walk the strip and there is surely  something you will enjoy.Be sure to eat at the great smokey mountain brewery, good food and live music at night, and good beer made on site.And if you happen to be in gatlinburg the 22nd-24th the song writers festival is going on, a neat event, you get too meet and hear who really writes the famous songs you hear on the radio everyday and its all free.

 

PS when you get off of interstate 40 for gatlinburg LOOK TO YOUR LEFT i almost missed it but there is a pretty cool Bass Pro right off the exit.they carry a lot of things most other Bass Pro Shops do not, for trout and smallmouth.

I was in Nashville a couple of years ago... It IS Tennessee, so at the hotel bar the house brand of bourbon was Jack Daniels Black Label. One of the perks

If you don't have a lot of time to spend, and you're bank bound, fish the Little Pigeon for smallies around any bridges in/around Pigeon Forge/Sevierville, and any deeper holes below the riffles. I'd also fish the tail race below Douglas rather than the lake itself. Cranks, spinnerbaits, jerk baits for smallies, largest, and a crapload of white bass. This is all close to Gatlinburg.

Night fishing on Douglas can be awesome in summer. We have a day tx in the spring and usually a night tx in the summer over there. There is a Bass Pro at the exit on I40 where you turn off to get into Gatlinburg

I would stop at Reelfoot lake for a day or two if you have the time. That place is amazing! The bass fishing is decent and the scenery is beautiful.

There are several places to rent a boat around the lake.
