macmichael Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Years ago my bud and I were archery hunting. We decided to go back to camp fpr some lunch and to try a farm pond for some bass. I always carried a cou[ple of old rod and reels in my truck along with some plastic worms. Not very many though. After lunch we headed to that pond. We were catching bass on these red plastic worms. Between the bass tearing up our worms and us losing more, we ran out. The fishing was great so we thought we'd just fish for a while longer but we were out of lures. Here's what we did. We scraped our red plastic fletchings off our arrows, put em on our hooks and continued catching bass the rest of the afternoon. It was wierd, but a lot of fun. No we didn't go hunting until the next morning. Quote
BassObsessed Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Not too weird but Iv'e caught them wacky rigging gummy worms. Quote
camovan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Candy wrapper was all I had one afternoon. Reeses minnow in gold and brown flash did pretty good that day, caught a half dozen bluegill in a creek and used those to catch a dozen bass in a farm pond. Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 13, 2014 Super User Posted March 13, 2014 I caught a keeper bass dead sticking a buzz bait. . . once . . . the rest of the story . . . .back when I was learning to fish a bait caster, I got backlashes every so often. Anyway, I was fishing a buzz bait, not having any luck, but proud of myself that I had thrown over a dozen times with no backlash, when I over powered a cast and backlash happened big time. Took 5 minutes or so to pick it out, backlash fixed, start to retrieve the bait and lo and behold a fish was attached. Never was able to replicate that feat. Quote

That's happened to me a lot when fishing senkos with cheap cabelas fishing line which would twist and make a mess coming off my spinning reel. I'd fix the mess then next thing I know I'd have a bass pulling my line before I could start reeling in line. 1 Quote

Did the same thing once with a rattle trap. About the time I was reeling up the slack from picking out the backlash he jumped. Somehow the fish hooked himself. Things like that let you know you are living your life right. Quote
NathanW Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 As kids I remember we used to catch Bullhead in rip-rap with a bare hook. Also, a few years back while fishing with my nieces we caught some bluegill on gummybears. Quote

When I was learning out to fish a bait caster launched a cast out on a square bill crank bait. It was just sitting there under a tree and I was half way through undoing the backlash and then BAM! So I reeled him in, throw him back and fixed the back lash. Funny how you catch them not even trying Quote
