Crankbait Lip Size

I have a few old crankbaits that aren't in production anymore, or are unidentifiable, and i want to know the specs on them. Is there a way to determine approximately how deep a crankbait runs, besides the obvious option of testing it out at different water depths to see when it hits bottom? I know as far as lip sizes go, its generally the bigger the lip the deeper the dive. But is that a definite solution, or are lip shape and angle a factor as well? When i purchase new cranks, i always save the part of the packaging that has the depth on it to avoid situations such as these.  Also i know line type also plays a role in diving depth, but I'm wondering solely about the baits.

The easiest solution might be to post pics here and see if someone can identify them, then take it from there. Other than that, using them is probably the only other real solution. Lip shape and angle do play a part on depth.

In my opinion just go out and throw them on 8-10lb line and see for yourself.

Judging depth by lip size is only good enough to ballpark it as a shallow, medium or deep diver.  I've got 3 cranks right next to me, a BPS Deep Diver, DT-20 and 6XD.  The DT-20 and 6XD both dive to the same depth, yet the DT-20's lip is significantly larger.  The BPS crank and 6XD have the same bill shape, size and even body size, yet the 6XD dives 5 feet deeper.

I would, only there is 2 feet of ice on all the water still. This is more from an organizational standpoint, a result of cabin fever.

Cotton Cordell Value Series Wiggle O.  Sometimes referred to as a Bait Bonanza.  Walmart has them kicking around loose in a green box on the bottom shelf of the fishing isle.  There's also a value series specific CC Super Spot and Bomber Square As.

 

That color might be discontinued.  I forget how deep they dive, but it's the same as a Wart.

Glad I could help. Don't get too excited about the 12' rating.  I fish my little Warts at around 6-8 feet range.  Post your other mystery baits and we'll see if we can't identify them for you.

How are the bait bonanza baits different than the regular baits with the same name? It never occurred to me that they would be any different, I always just assumed they were cheaper because its Walmart.

It varies bait to bait.  The Square A appears to have no differences at all or only comes in the small size (does bomber still make the big bodies square As).

 

The biggest changes are on the Super Spot.  It made from a cheaper plastic that has a higher pitch sound when struck.  It lacks the belly bulge, the eyes are 3D jeweled eyes and there is gill plate relief on the bait.  It's noticeably high pitch and louder and a bit tighter in wobble.

 

The Wiggle O has different eyes from the regular model and is made of a cheaper plastic.
