GoBlue80 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I am just really curious when the best time to use the silent version of the red eye shad. I have noticed a lot of companies going to silent versions is this a new trend right now. Quote
philsoreel Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I don't think silent lures are anything "new" but yes alot of companies are just following suit. The nature of the beast. I use them alot except in really dark water. I started buying them to use on heavily pressured lakes, hoping for an advantage but mostly the shallow running Lucky Crafts. There have been a few times when I noticed that I was catching alot more fish than my partner with a silent crank but I haven't really "tested" it. When I said I use them alot I meant Strike King billed cranks and LuckyC BDS Fat CB's. Haven't tried silent Red Eyes didn't even know they made them...will do Quote

Super User Tin Posted February 3, 2011 Super User Posted February 3, 2011 Drill hole into bottom of bait, fill with super-glue. I like them best when there are a lot of people fishing in one area. Quote

Ha, funny you said that. I have one in Ghost Sexysomethingoranother that two of the bb's were stuck in the bottom of it. They were put in before the plastic cured/hardened and wouldn't budge. Wouldn't run straight so I drilled a tiny hole in it and broke them free with a set of acetylene torch tip cleaners and plugged the hole with a clear epoxy. Works great now. You would actually have to drill more than one hole to make it silent because there is a rectangular weight/rattle akin to a "one knocker rattle" in a separate chamber under the front hook. Quote
