iamham3 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Using the following guide for my 6 combo arsenal what size line should I use for each? Please keep in mind that I'm in the adolescent stage as far as bass fishing knowledge and I'm working on a budget. I pretty much have the combos mapped out--I think, I just need some advice for the finishing touches. 1. Flipping, pitching, punching, frogging and swimbaits 2. Topwaters and jerkbaits 3. Crankbaits 4. Texas rigs and jigs 5. Spinnerbaits and swimming jigs 6. Power spinning Quote
tbone1993 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 1.- 15lb fluoro (mono) or 50lb braid (best option is braid) 2- 10 fluoro for jerkbaits, 3. 12lb fluoro 4. 15 fluoro 5. 15lb or 12lb fluoro 6. no idea what you mean by power spinning but lets say 8lb for a spinning rod 10lb for baitcaster Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 12, 2014 Super User Posted March 12, 2014 Because you are working on a budget I am going to avoid brand recommendations. Here's my 2-cents. 1. Flipping, pitching, punching, frogging and swimbaits - Braid 40+ lb test 2a. Topwaters - 15 mono at least 2b. Jerkbaits - 10-12lb Fluoro 3. Crankbaits - 10-12lb Fluoro 4. Texas rigs and jigs - 15-20lb Fluoro 5. Spinnerbaits and swimming jigs - 15-20lb Fluoro 6. Power spinning - Assume you mean Spinning Rod here. 10-15lb Braid. 6-10lb Fluoro leader as needed. Note: I throw Jerkbaits and Cranks on the same rod. That might help you here. Quote

Topwaters and jerkbaits #12 Sunline Super Natural 3. Crankbaits #12 SuperNatural 4. Texas rigs and jigs #12 Seaguar AbrazX 5. Spinnerbaits and swimming jigs #12 AbrazX 6. Power spinning ? If you want to keep it simple: Spinning gear: #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Baitcasting gear: #12 Hybrid Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 12, 2014 Super User Posted March 12, 2014 Spinning both power and finesse, not that I know what is meant by either, 10-15# braided line. No trolling line out, no line treatment needed, with more than enough line strength. Quote
doyle8218 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Yo-Zuri or P-Line copoly #15 for everything but punching and frogging I use #40 Spiderwire Ultracast. Quote
iamham3 Posted March 12, 2014 Author Posted March 12, 2014 Thanks for all the suggestions. I now have a good foundation to begin. I should have made more sense for #6. The spinning setup is for tubes, grubs, shakey heads, drop shots. So no leader is needed with braid for the flipping/pitching rig? Quote
