Ive been killing a bunch of dinks on square bills and speed worms lately. For the record guys today I broke a palomar knot getting hung up in some grass. That took a lot of muscle even on 12lb mono.

I had a great afternoon right before dark yesterday fishing a zoom horny toad. Managed to catch 7 out of 13 just reeling it on top without stopping it buzzing the water. Biggest was about 4lbs but most were around 1-2 lb range. But glad the frog action is getting good in Jax once again!

Was going to do a little minnow fishing today but these minnows werent falling for my cage trap. They decided hanging out near it was good enough. Then a whole bunch of bass 1.5lbs and under started picking them off along with blue gills and a 5lbish catfish.

Was fun to watch but i got no action.

Been hearing a lot about the Gambler EZ swimmer, so I bought a pack.  Maybe it's the water I'm fishing or time of day but they have not produced the bigger bass as I hoped.  Whether I would have done better using another bait is pure conjecture.  I have caught a fish or 2 every day for the last week on them, but no bigger or no more than I normally do.  I have committed myself to use nothing but them, I just want to catch bigger fish.  Since I'm banging out some pretty good fish at the ocean that relieves a lot of pressure off bass fishing.  I bought 2 more packs yesterday, rest assured I will catch a big lady.

I went out to Lake Manatee last weekend last weekend and caught three before breaking the prop shaft on the trolling motor. At that point we called it because the wind was so bad. I was using a black Zoom finesse on a Strike King shaky head jig. Fist time using it and I came away liking the results.

Been thinking of hitting Lake Manatee. I haven't been there in a couple of years.  Funny it was always drown or drought, we'd get skunked or pull in so many we could'nt keep count.

Been killing them on a white and gold swim jig this morning. Have to admit they like it and so do I.

Mind sharing brand and weight?....,Lou swears by the gold shiner Booyah spinnerbaits. I have yet to buy into the hype :P but another one for the color is making me interested ;)

Perfectly describes the place.

It is a 3/8 Yank'em swim jig in golden shiner color. Got a couple more since a pickeral got into it. Its not unusable but that fish took some of the skirt off so its looking a little thin.

This is a new one.

That's a nice color right there. Just enough gold to not overpower the bait.

There is nothing like gator scare to get the blood moving.... LOL... Speaking of gators, for the first time ever this past Saturday out in the glades we hooked onto 3 gators. As a result we lost one bait and a swimbait hook. They were so camouflaged in the pads and the grass that when our baits landed in their proximity they would lunge out and reach for it. They are explosive powerful animals that's for sure.

Today turned out to be pretty good. Got a dozen largest coming in at 3.8lbs. No pickerals! Yay.

I finally got off the schneid, my first peacock over 20" since the freeze.  At one time I had peacocks every where around me, not the case anymore.  Had a premonition yesterday, knowing I was going to fish an are without much weed cover and the fish being small I took a light power rod, size 25 supreme reel and my favorite peacock killer......a crappie jig.  I spotted a few peas and was sight casting, no interest but I got a look.  I then dragged my jig on the bottom and that's all it took, I had a hook up.  The fight was pretty fair, glad I was using a light rod rather than a medium.

So I took a little break from fishing. A whole day.... and did some reading up here at BR. I learned a little bit and tried testing new ideas out at my test pond. Seems ones of the major problems I was having was identifying the bigger fish strike zones. With a little help from the guys at the bait shop I got my color selections down to a science now and it all seems to have been working out. Ive had well over 2 dozen hits today but wouldnt set the hook unless it felt big. Pulling in a 2.7lb, 3.3lb, and last but not least 4.0lbs flat. All on speed worms.

This was the catch of the day. Looks like a male to me. Any one know how to tell the difference?

Hey guys haven't been on bassresource in a while except for looking up techniques and stuff. My brother caught another big bass that weighed 10 pounds 10 ounces. He caught it on the Huddleston Deluxe 6 inch trout swimbait in blue shad color. I cant upload pictures here due to size limit but if anyone is interested in checking out the bass here is the link.
