SFL BassHunter Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Finally got out and did some fishing. I've had a jammed finger for about a week, the swelling finally came down enough where holding the rod wasn't painful. Alright so I am loving Okeechobee Craw color. I've been having great success with different types of plastics in that color. I was there for about 5 minutes and caught my first one. Then about 10 minutes later caught a smaller one (no picture I like to put the little fellars back in quick.). This one was 1.5 lbs and about 13 inches long. 1 Quote

Yeah, I went to the park earlier today also. I caught 4, and they ran the same size as yours Pitboss. I had a nice one short strike my bait, but it would not commit again. Days like these last few are nice, but it makes fishing pretty tough sometimes. Quote
BassinSoldier Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Nope jaxbasser. Westsider here too. FAR westside actually...Glen St Mary here. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Went to the park today and had no luck. There was another guy fishing and he caught 2. One of them was a nice size probably about 3 pounds. Unfortunately he didn't release them. He had them on a rope and came by to ask if I wanted them. I told him I didn't eat bass and i wouldnt eat anything from that lake. He proceeded to tell me he wasn't going to eat them either. I let him know that if he wasn't going to eat them he should have released them immediately instead of letting one die on a rope. People are idiots. It's common sense, if you aren't going to eat it, then release it. Quote

Pz3 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Went all day yesterday and it was pretty rough for most everyone I talked to. Catch of the day was 1.1lbs. Missed a piggy by not paying attention. Tossed out and went to light up a smoke when my line started swimming back towards me. Tightened it up and just as I went to set it it spit it out. Girlfriend got a good photo of me from behind with the sunset. Quote

I have spoke to park officials about that, but no signage is placed anywhere about it being catch and release. I call these fisherman meat hunters. They have no regard for the size limits and cull amounts. Quote
Pz3 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Ive seen people do stuff like that before. Considering Ive been fishing for my whole life and yesterday was the first time ever stopped and asked for my freshwater license. I do appreciate the fact FWL is out there but Ive seen to many people wasting fish like that. Here I am feeling bad when I get a hook set into the gills or throat and these guys dont even care if it dies or lives. Quote

He was probably between 18-21 so he wasn't a little kid and should know better. The truth is if there are no signs then it's hard to enforce. Even then park officials sometimes just don't care. Quote

SFL BassHunter Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Thinking about going to C.B. Smith tomorrow after I get out of work. Anything good to report from that park? Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted April 6, 2014 Super User Posted April 6, 2014 The glades was awesome today. I took my 7yr old son to US 27 for the first time today, and we had a blast. We went from 1030 - 630 and caught 49 fish, 42, which were all his catches. I got to fish some and did ok. My son used a fluke and I used my trusty frog. There was a lot boat traffic that made the water very stained but by 2pm as I expected everyone went home like clock work. From that point forward it was just us on the water. If you want to catch a boat load fish right now, the glades is the place. 1 Quote

Nothing big, but lots of fun on small rods. Quote
Super User geo g Posted April 6, 2014 Super User Posted April 6, 2014 Lou that's great your son caught so many. He will be hooked for sure. Lots of boaters out on 27 this morning, I went up to Holey Land. Quote

The water was really muddy. i told my BIL that by 2pm he will see everyone will clear out. Sure enough 2pm, one boat, two boats, three, .... and they were all gone. From 3pm - 630pm noooobody was there. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted April 6, 2014 Super User Posted April 6, 2014 Not fishing for nothing now are ya! LOL.... you remembered the line.... Quote
Pz3 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Yeah it was a good story. Does he still feel the same about fishing? Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Went up to Mills Pond Park for about 3 hours and ended up with 1 small bass. Disappointing. I'm crossing that park off my list, that 2 times I've been skunked there. So I went to Tropical on my way home and hooked up 3 fish in 30 minutes. Whenever in doubt go to where you know there are fish lol. I took pics of 2 of the 3 from tropical, I always feel bad for the little babies and toss them back asap. I felt real bad for the small one at Mills Pond cause I hooked him through the mouth and into the eye. Poor little fella. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted April 7, 2014 Super User Posted April 7, 2014 Yeah it was a good story. Does he still feel the same about fishing? All I know he is quite the competitor. Since he caught that big mudfish in the pic, plus another one that was even bigger than the first. His barometer of big fish were those mudfish... LOl.. so when I caught some nice bass, which I did, all he could say was "my fish were bigger".... LOL.... to answer your question Pz3, I think in some way the way he views bass fishing changed. He would watch how I fished then he would ask if he could stand in the front of the boat and fish some by himself. Of course, I would step aside and watch. He would try to mimic my hooksets and with the phrases that use when I hookset. It was unbelievable and awesome to watch. Quote
Super User geo g Posted April 7, 2014 Super User Posted April 7, 2014 Sunday 4/6/14, Holey Land, US 27 at the Palm Beach Line, water gin clear, wind 0 in the morning, 20+ at 10:00. Went out this morning and wow, it was beautiful. Started casting right at the ramp and caught 3 in 5 minutes. Realized I forgot sunglasses and a hat, a SENIOR MOMENT! Returned to the ramp and ran into a good friend (Eric NitroZ7) I hadn't seen in 6 months. We talked for some time and he ran 5 miles to his honey hole. I stayed right by the ramp in the big lake. By 10:00 the wind was doing a steady 20+, and I called it quits. In 2 hours I caught 20 the biggest 3 lbs. and I never started the big motor. There are loads of places in the glades producing big numbers. No slow down in sight yet. Quote
