Super User RoLo Posted March 20, 2014 Super User Posted March 20, 2014 Well Roger it's good to see you back on here. It was just awhile ago I was wondering where you've been. Thank you 1-7. Still in Lake Wales, FL Quote
Michaelt1987 Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I took my son this afternoon and caught a total of 6 on a white frog. He thought it as pretty cool to see the top water bite. 2 Quote

Also checkout for a rebel jumpin minnow in bone or black/silver. The pop-r topwater bite is about to heat up. April and may was good to me last yr then got warm and I went worming deep. 2 Quote
JellyMan Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Giving Santa Fe another shot tomorrow. Will post back if I catch anything. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 22, 2014 Super User Posted March 22, 2014 Just got in a little while ago. After dinner I stepped out, to the neighborhood canal for 45 min. I caught 4 nice bass on a spinnerbait. May have to replace it soon, one of the bass struck right at the shoreline before I pulled my bait up and it put a number on the wire. Pics will follow soon, computer is slow loading for some reason. 1 Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 22, 2014 Super User Posted March 22, 2014 Mirror lure twitch baits are one of my favorites, I like the catch 2000. Quote
Super User MCS Posted March 22, 2014 Super User Posted March 22, 2014 Mirror lure twitch baits are one of my favorites, I like the catch 2000.I wondered what type the one I have was, I know my son has a catch five in 808, this twitch bait is a series III S7MR in CHBL. These two are my first experience with the lures, my son saw a flats class with them using the 808 color and had to have one lol. I will be getting more.On a side note snook I saw your rod thread, I am looking at longer rods now myself, what type of vehicle do you transport an 8' rod in? I myself have a sedan. I think angling it I could get one in, or putting down the seat to access the trunk. Quote

You never know when someone is going to drive up on you. I could start a whole thread with those stories. LOL.. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Think I'll be hitting up Tropical Park later today. Don't really feel like driving far today. Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted March 22, 2014 Super User Posted March 22, 2014 I had an interesting outing today. First, for the first time ever I saw what I consider a monster pack. It consisted of at least 12 juvenile peacock's avg 1lb to 2lbs then in the back of that pack was a another pack of LMB. Which consisted from what I could see at least 4, avg 2.5 to 3.5lbs. Cast around them had some looks but no takers. They were heading somewhere. I then caught 2 nice bass, lost my spinnerbait. (Got to adventurous around some cover on the other side of the canal). Put on my replacement spinnerbait, caught 2 more bass, lost the main blade, so I switched again, different color, and got skunked. Then I lost that spinnerbait too. It was just one of those days..... LOL... Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 22, 2014 Super User Posted March 22, 2014 Hooked 3 shorts. Nice to see you finding a rhythm Pitboss. This time last month you were posting for help and now you are posting fish. Nice job, WTG!! 1 Quote
teamshrink Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Went to Lake Fairview today. Caught 3 babies on Flukes near pads. Saw lots of beds and bait, couldn't find any big fish Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Nice to see you finding a rhythm Pitboss. This time last month you were posting for help and now you are posting fish. Nice job, WTG!! Yeah I'm catching bass on every outing now. It's a good feeling not getting skunked every outing. Something I have noticed though at tropical park is I only catch a fish after I've changed my bait. I've been trying to figure them out and generally the first bite comes within the first few casts. I was using a Pit Boss Jr in Okeechobee Craw color (Blue and Green). I then continued using that same Jr for about 15 or 20 minutes without a bite. After I lost it in the cattails I obviously had to put on a new one, and I switched to a white and blue Pit Boss Jr, after 2 or 3 casts I caught the second fish. Then another dry spell came. Eventually I switched out of the pit boss and went to a bitsy bug with a large paca craw trailer and got no bites for a while. So I switched the trailer for a small paca craw and caught my third fish on the 2nd cast. After that nothing till I called it a day. I guess what I am getting at is, can the fish smell the other fish on a bait that has been bitten? I mean after grabbing a bass with my hands the smell stays on for a while, so would it stand reason that the fish can also smell it on the soft plastic and maybe not go for it? Quote

But then again, when I am fishing soft plastics/ jigs I always use megastrike. When the bite stops, I evaluate what could be happening. You were having some success with the different jig combo's. Did you stay in the area or did you cover a lot water? Was there a cover change? Tropical and Amelia parks have similar lakes. I find that if the fish are relating to some sort of cover on that day, let's say for example grass, I would continue looking for grass and not focusing around the outcrops of limestone rock that these lakes have, or vice versa. SFL BassHunter Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 The north lake where I fish has 2 sections, the more open water area (south part of the lake) and then the area with mostly cover. Lilypads and their stems everywhere. I generally fish the area with cover. I generally fish an area for a while till the bites stop there, then I move. But for example the first 2 fish I caught in the same area with 2 different pit boss jrs. The last fish I moved to a different area to catch. But the reason I mention it is because this has been a trend for me. Even when I was fishing the other day with stick baits, I was consistently catching fish when I changed out my stick bait. Anyways, hope you enjoy my artistic skills on this map of the Tropical Park lake lol. Quote
