I believe there can only be 1 world record and for redfish it happens to be North Carolina, 94#.  Sebastion does hold some great fish, Florida record is 52# caught in that general area.

you're right the current world record redfish is in north Carolina, but before that one, it was in Indian river lagoon and the state record also came from there as well around there somewhere.

It's a bummer isn't it? I gotta get myself a little skiff/bass rig one of these days.

I do get out on a boat but for offshore fishing, my inshore is done from shore.  It's all personal but for me bass fishing doesn't do it for me like inshore fishing does.  I do bass fish in the cooler months when the inshore bite is slow.  Right now I can't force myself to go out and deal with the heat to bass fish, I've even curtailed my peacock fishing.  A 10# bass which I probably won't catch or a 10# jack that I will catch, there is no thought involved which one I'd rather have on my line.

Just went through all my tackle last night, noticed I had some rust on my topwater baits last time I was out. EVERYTHING is rusted. I stripped hooks off 6 3700 boxes full of hard baits, even all my japanese cranks/vision 110's were pitted and had a little rust. All my spinnerbaits except the couple I have been using are toast. Even all my umbrella rigs are toast since I havent used em since I moved here. Dangit! Going to be like $50-$100 to replace all those hooks, and they were all KVD short shanks too so already replaced from stock hooks. Looking at storage solutions now, this aint working. I leave all my boxes in the rod locker of my boat, and have holes drilled in them to get rid of moisture. Worked great in Cali with zero humidity, here not so much. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking get all waterproof boxes and make sure I dry every bait out before it goes back in the box. Was looking at the waterproof Flambeaus with the zerust dividers just to be on the safe side. Ive always been a Plano guy and I know the Flambeau stuff is usually on the cheap side but their waterproof boxes look pretty nice.

Holes in boxes can let out just as much moisture as they let in.

Go to a pharmacy and see if they'll give you some of the desiccant packages that medications come packaged in. For the most part they just get rid of them. Stick one in a box and you'll probably solve the problem. Change it out once or twice a year. You can also find them in a lot of products you probably have around the house.

Hit up Holiday this morning for a few hours. Still not able to get a 30 pound stringer. I lost a d**n giant today in the pads that probably would have put me over. Water is pretty dirty, but the fish are still there. Off the water at 10:30 with roughly 25-26 pounds.

Not a bad idea actually. I picked up a bunch of those zerust strips a week ago to give them a try but didnt realize it was this bad. Shoot I cant even keep a good bottle of BBQ rub in the house, soon as I go to use it the second time its a block. Anti-caking agents my a$$!! How am I supposed to smoke a shoulder with no rub! Grrr. Jungle livin! If the fishing wasnt so dang good... I may complain about not catching any size, but in cali when the fishing is bad you cant even get a dink to sniff you just go out and blank!

I went north today. Up towards the alley. Try to find cleaner water. I'm by no means a holiday expert. If you stick a good fish, saturate the area with baits. The fish school up in stretches out there. Everything I caught today was on the ole flippin stick.

I may go back out tomorrow. Either there or Lox. I'd rather get out on the flats and throw frogs and swimbaits right now instead of canal fishing.

Hey guys,

New to the forum, have lived in PSL since 2000, but have mostly just fished the piers, and various shore line spots on the river.

I'm looking to take my boy out tomorrow for some fresh water fishing - we are boat less, and wondering what ponds / lakes / etc. are easily accessible by land, that we can catch a variety of fish.

Wouldn't mind some salt water action either, but he's still a little small for wading, and I'm getting a little bummed out with the crowded pier fishing.

Any suggestions for me to check out would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Psl too. For freshwater you can fish the lake on prima vista behind the walwart close to i95. or the lake by green river drive in berkshire

Thank-you :) I know the lake by Walmart, never fished it, but know it; not sure of the green river drive area though; I'll map quest it.

It's surprising how much salt is in the air even being inland 10 miles.  I don't seem to have a problem with rust on my freshwater lures, I take no care with them either.  Salt water hooks are different matter, I use VMC perma steel and they still rust up pretty bad.  I do carry a diamond file for quick touch up, that seems to work well.

I'm doing very little freshwater fishing now, peacocks have pretty much really slowed up around here.  This hasn't been the best year I've seen for inshore fishing, most likely due to the lack of bait showing up.  There are fish to be had but one needs to understand the tides and winds.  To the gentleman from PSL, Hobe sound is one of the better beaches to fish, all free parking too.  Taking a young fisherman to catch blue runners or small jacks off the beach is some pretty good stuff, those fish can really fight.  If the fish are in it's pretty easy to do, all you need is a spoon.  There are snook, redfish, ladyfish be coming in soon, from now until the end of the year there can be a lot of action in salt water.

I've never really lit it up inshore (from shore), but the past couple of times I've been out NO ONE has had anything. I agree, there is a lot to be learned, and information to use from the tides and winds, but that's the experience I haven't learned from the area yet.

I've heard nothing but good about Hobe Sound, right now I'm only outfitted with pretty light duty stuff, I've got one combo that is acceptable for surf fishing, but I'm not opposed to picking another one up.

Thanks again

This afternoon we headed out to Lake Winterset in the Winter Haven chain.

There was thunder and lightning in the southern sky, so we knew we were leading with our chins,

but for a change we didn't get drenched. While motoring through the canal between the islands

I counted 10 boats heading back to the barn, they looked like a long string of big ugly pearls.

I can just imagine the bottleneck they created at the Summit boat ramp.

Today is only the 2nd day of summer, but I was surprised to learn that the bass are already heavily schooled.

We witnessed a few whitewater blitzkriegs, on & off throughout the evening.

Frankly, we lost more bass than we boated, but had a ball in the melee. On a high note,

the bass we boated ran mostly between 2 and 4 lbs, which is unusual for schoolies.

Most bass were taken on a bubblegum super fluke, but the biggest fell for a Deps Deathadder Grub (4lb 12oz).

P.S.

Compared to most lakes in central Florida, Lake Winterset is very clear and deep.

Today at least, the key to location was pondweed patches mixed with open water for good chase visibility.

By the way, pondweed is called 'cabbage' in Canada, and 'peppergrass' in Florida (same stuff).

Water depth seemed to be secondary, but most bass today were taken in 6 to10-feet of water.

Hobe Sound is really good, Sebastion is even better.  Florida surf fishing you don't need heavy gear, most fish are going to be caught within 50' of shore.  I pretty much only use medium spinning with a 3000 or 4000 reel, 15# braided line.  There is no control over what you might catch, one day it can be small jacks or bluefish, another day it can be 20# snook, big jacks or redfish.  If hooking into a 20# jack and chasing it down the beach a few hundreds doesn't get your blood boiling, I don't know what would.

Didn't have a strike yesterday off the beach, I did some peacock fishing on the way home caught a couple of nice ones to salvage the day, I'd rather have had that 20# jack, lol.

I was able to get out to the Big-L the past two Sundays and it has been really good.  The water is not to high and we have been catching some big bass.  Starting at 4pm and fishing till dark with jigs and big worms burning across the top over the Lilly pads resulted in a 27 lb bag last Sunday and a 23 lb bag yesterday.  I was really excited because this was my first time to catch bass using jigs.  I missed a few really goods ones but still managed to land a few despite my novice jigging skills.
