LMB KING Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I caught a few of these Thursday, I then saw some monsters. There was a fellow fishing for them so I just watched, I then re rigged his set up and gave him one of my home tied jigs. Sorry to say they didn't cooperate, I was hoping to see this person catch a real nice fish. Nice fish. I'v been bass fishing and peacock bass fishing in pembroke pines and C-14 canals. The large mouth bass are very big in those canals, i got a 7 pounder first cast. I took pictures Quote
Arbesu441 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Does anyone live up in the Clearwater area and fish the lakes around there? I've been fishing the lakes in my apartment complex pretty frequently and catching about a 2 pound average. Lost one the would have went 8-9 in the grass trying to get him up the bank. Quote

Allow me to give you a tip, not saying it works every time. In saltwater beach fishing with some fish we can't pull them out of the water, the technique is to walk backwards and let your legs pull the fish in. I have done this numerous times bass fishing pulling a fish up a high banked canal. Quote
BassObsessed Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Sounds like a great day of fishing. I should have went there also on my trip to Fl. Let's see some pics of those hawgs. Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 I caught over 15 fish with most being 4-7lbs. As I was going back to the ramp, I hooked into a bass that went 9.14 , but then settled down to 9.11 after a few times of weighing her. After fishing Stick Marsh, I see no reason to keep hoping to get lucky on toho or anywhere else in Orlando for that matter in regard to catching MULTIPLE LARGE FISH! There were was an 11, two 8's, and another 9 caught within the same time frame I was fishing, too. Everyone catches and releases there as the policy is strict(there's a reason for that). Fish aren't even allowed in the livewell. Most of the boats were locals who all were super friendly but made it a point to emphasize catch/release. That's how it should be if you want to have a great fishery were most can hook up with bass of a lifetime! If you want to mount a fish, measure it and take lots of pictures so you can have a replica made. Man that sounds awesome. What lures where catching em? I am trying to tell some buddies to go there for a get together. Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 Wow that is a pig! Good info bbd. Thanks for the details. Congrats on the success of a well planned and excited trip. Is that 9 a PB? Quote

LMB KING Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Terrible photo perspective but this fish was a SOW. DISREGARD the 9.14 you see on the scale, I repeated the weight three more times and got 9.11 each time. Hey, what type of scale is that? Quote
LMB KING Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Berkley Big Game Lip Grip-Digital Scale. The 9.14 happened probably because that's the initial reading as the fish was bouncing around. The 9.11 happened when he was still. http://www.wholesalemarine.com/berkley-big-game-lip-grip-digital-scale.html?gclid=CjgKEAjwzIucBRDzjIz9qMOB3TASJABBIwL1b5k-QknypakIFvKxgvVNETSlZ3eah6xKvQnYI-cRxvD_BwE I wish i had that scale 3 years ago when i hooked on the biggest bass in my life. I bought a cheap scale and kicked myself in the balls. That scale said that bass was a 8 pounder, but it was like twice as big as that one you have. So now im investing on a good scale. Quote
LMB KING Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 You don't have to believe it. Here's anther pic so you can see the full perspective of the fish from about 15ft away. Notice how my hand is covering the rear most portion of the belly she had on her. I never said i don't believe it. I don't think you get what i am saying. I caught a bass that it looked like a little whale and my cheap scale said that it was 8 pounds, but its was like over 15 pounds. So now i am investing in a good scale. Quote
LMB KING Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 When I first bought that scale, I took it to the gym with me one night and used a piece of bungee cord I had to attach a 5 and a 10lbs plate to it. It was within +/- 1 ounce. It's a pretty good scale for the money, Yep, I am buying one for sure. Quote

Over 15lbs, means that you caught close to the FL State record which is 17.27lbr caught in 1986!! That cheap scale was either way off its mark, or your excitement of the moment skewed your perspective. What part of FL did you tangle with this pig? Quote
Pz3 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I still believe a new record is out there to be caught. This fish has an IQ larger then einstein and puts all of our angling skills to shame. Quote

I got it on a place called lake charles in port st lucie. the bass was twice as big as the one he caught. my friend said it looked like a baby whale. I cant go back to that place because its a gated community. i got it on a 15 inch worm with fluorocarbon line. I will never forget that day. I am trying to sneak back into that community but im scare that a security will come and arrest me for trespassing Quote
