Super User BassinLou Posted July 29, 2014 Super User Posted July 29, 2014 Winter..... where to begin. Our weather can be down right gorgeous. However, those pretty days mean some tough fishing days. During transitional weather like for example approaching fronts, the fishing can pick up some. It can be touch and go for a little while until March roles around and then the fun starts to pick up again until the dog days of summer. Circle of life down here in South Fl. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 30, 2014 Super User Posted July 30, 2014 There is always a bite going on in Florida, IMO it's more seasonal than many non Floridians realize. Winter offers some excellent LMB fishing, while inshore fishing can be quite lackluster. The opposite is true in the hot months, June thru Sept the bass fishing can be very spotty while inshore can be excellent. Quote
tallydude Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Agreed. I far prefer winter to summer in Florida. However, after spending the last 3 and a half years in Kansas, I'm just glad to be near the water again. Quote
Mr. BattleArmor Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Been having the same luck. Past week or so especially, it's been so hot that most of the time I won't even go fish and if I do it's hard to get a bite unless it's early or evening. But, I will be taking the 'yak out to the 10k islands this weekend and the inshore bite should be on!! Quote
JellyMan Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Watch out for Vibrio! I know it's most likely blown out of proportion but still, careful. I wanted to do some wading for Reds and Trout this weekend but I might just hang back. Sure a hell not going out for Bass... too hot. I think I might knock the rust off and play some golf. Get ready for the fall and winter golf season. As hard is it is to believe, I do have other hobbies. Golf is a big one. I used to be pretty good at it too. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted August 3, 2014 Super User Posted August 3, 2014 Spent the morning on Okeechobee out of Slims. South end of the Lake had some pretty dirtied up water. Went into Pelican Bay to a spot I've had great success the last three trips and found some clear water way back in the grass. Flipped up a whole pile of fish from on BB Crickets and Why Nots from 7 to 10. This place will be a gold mine come spawning time. Lots of bait and forage fish in the area. Not sure what kind of fish they were, but there were a bunch of beds around. Started to rain a bit, so I moved back into some more open water just in case I had to run from a storm. Finished out the morning with Gambler Burner worms swimming them below the surface with a 3/16th weight. Landed a handful more for another hour before I called it a day and headed home. Good fun morning. Okeechobee is alive and well. Water levels are just shy of 14 ft. Might be my last trip out there for a while. Big project coming up that'll occupy most of my time. Managed to have a Manatee breach right next to the boat in 2 foot of water. Scared the absolute hell out of me. 1 Quote
JellyMan Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Skunked again today. I had one tiny bite on the rage toad right before dark. Thats it. Oh, and about 5 mudfish. I hate those things. Gainesville is über lame. Orlando Orlando Orlando! I miss it! Fish all summer long. What I have learned about this area, is that you may find a few here and there, but it's just tough. No way around it. When we do get a bite, we have large numbers of double digit fish on the line. I have seen it. Otherwise, just stay home for the most part. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted August 11, 2014 Super User Posted August 11, 2014 Hit lox this morning. Sun up until 11. HOT weather today. Water temps were up there also. Probably my last trip out for a couple of months unless I can sneak out next weekend. I start up a big project on the 18th. Slow bite today. Took a while to find a few fish. Went back into the flats a good bit and found a deep hole that I never knew about. Wide open clear spot with about a foot and a half of deeper water in it compared to what surrounded it. Slowly swum a weighted Burner Worm through it and started to get bit. Ended up with a decent bag. I'm becoming more and more of a fan of that worm. It just comes through grass so well. Nice option for getting down into and through deeper grass. It's become a regular in my lineup. 2 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 11, 2014 Super User Posted August 11, 2014 Wow Eric nice catches!! A good buddy of mine was out there this morning as well, and reported it was pretty tough out. Biggest went for 15". You found yourself a nice spot WTG!! Quote
JellyMan Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 We are fully in the fallout. I have no plans for going out for fresh water till we get either a BUNCH of rain, or fall sets in. Golf is heating up... Quote
bobletcs Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Hi Guys... Been busy with work and haven't been out for a while. Goin to Holiday Park tomorrow morning. Seems like everything has slowed alot, but...any suggestions? Was gonna bring a spook and some gambler worms mainly. Anything better? Thanks Quote

Seems like everything has slowed alot, but...any suggestions? Was gonna bring a spook and some gambler worms mainly. Anything better? Thanks Bob, best of luck, I haven't heard any Holiday reports lately. When that happens the fish have gone bye, bye. Check back in March or April. With all the recent rains I am sure the last remaining stragglers have gone into the marshes. But... hey maybe you can come across some, let us know. Also, when Holiday shuts down, many shift their attention to Lox. The fishing has picked up there some. Just check out Soflabassaddict post above. Good luck either way. Quote
piscicidal Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Holiday is still going good. We caught +23lbs there Sunday from 10-4. Four 5lbers and three 3lbers with several big ones lost. A lot of the guys I talk to are in the same boat as me.... after the tourney season we prefer to fish places like Lox/Okeechobee because we get tired of looking at canals. Of course when you go fishing at Okeechobee like I did Saturday...wake up at 3:00AM, spend all day out there, almost die from the heat, and catch 13lbs...those canals start looking pretty good! Quote

bobletcs Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Holiday park - Was out from 645 til close to noon....skunked. Only had maybe 3 or 4 nibbles. Tried everything from jigs to spinners to cranks to worms...nada. Weather was decent though Quote
Backlash123 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Went out on L67 and got skunked. Caught 1 around 1.5 lbs. Fished worms, jigs, and Why Nots. It's truly amazing how some guys have the area so figured out that they continue to catch fish. Kudos to them. I've been thinking of giving Lox a try, but I've never been there and have no idea where to even launch. Any help on directions would be greatly appreciated, I live down in Miami. Tight lines. Quote

From Miami go north on I 75, then Sawgrass Expressway, to 441 north, a mile up turn west on Lox Road, the road dead ends at the ramps. Remember there is a speed limit for boats all throughout Lox. 35 MPH. Quote
JellyMan Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 We got raaaain!!! Good amount... cloudy and 10 degree lower temps for the last 2 days. Hopping to find the bite this weekend. Ive been golfing almost every day otherwise lol. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 13, 2014 Super User Posted August 13, 2014 Had 2 tarpon on lost them both on the 2nd jump, bait was fairly heavy on the beach but no fish under them. 3 rd day in row without seeing a peacock, but my community pond was on fire in the PM. Sadly the bass busting were so small that anything over a snoopy rod was overkill. Quote

I personally have never seen the guys out there with the radar guns, but several people on here have. There's a gator hunt being allowed in a week or two. Protesters have already planned to show up. I think it's only allowed Friday and Saturday nights. But you can bet that there will be somebody out there with a camera trying to interviews before too long. Quote

Tried everything from jigs to spinners to cranks to worms...nada. Weather was decent though Holiday can be rough this time of the year. Most of the fish have pulled back into the marsh by now. You can still pull a decent sack out of there if you grind it out and are able to find a good stretch or two. Won't be seeing many of those 30 pound limits until the water drops again. Quote
rchiuz Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Where is Lox? I never heard of it? Is it someplace where you can fish from shore or a boat is a must? Quote
