LOL....Did you hear banjo music??.....I would say first guess it is the guts from a hunters hog kill. Next get is livestock that died.

I am surprised a gator hadn't gobbled them up.

It is North Florida after all. Banjo's for sure. It looked so foreign. Most likely a discarded section of a kill but it was BIG.

Taking my son out on the Manatee River tomorrow. I haven't been out there for a couple months so, if anyone knows what they're biting on or has a suggestion, I'll take it.

He's five and it's going to be his first time fishing out there so, I'm hoping to hook him up on something.

Going out to loxahatchee on Sunday for the first time with my boat. Have only fished a few times out there on friends boats. Have two other friends coming with their boats for a little competition. Pretty excited. Anyone have any advice for fishing lox during the summer? Besides watch out for storms haha.

Anybody know exactly what this is? Saw this floating in the canal while moving between lakes.

NWS. Turn down the volume if you are at the office.

You are correct that it is stomach and intestines, bloated from bacterial gas.  Must have been deliberately butchered to be seperate from the rest of the animal. The brown thing under the surface could be a liver, but I'm not sure. The white netting looking stuff may be omentum after fatty component decomposed?  Clearly from a large animal. Could be from a pig.

i have had no luck with topwater lately. probably because topwater isn't very successful at my lake i fish. but any tips on topwater? i have been using worms and senkos and was catching them right and left. and then i switched to a lunker pond and then came back and nothing was working. i switched to flukes and they worked for a couple days and now chatter baits, spinnerbaits, texas rigged worms, t-rigged senkos, and t rigged flukes don't work. I'm mainly casting up under a road tunnel that has some bass holes in it. i also have access to a bunch of lilies but no topwater bites. haven't ever caught anything topwater yet actually.

That's fishing man. The frog bit was epic last week... today I went out and got two blow ups on the frog and nothing landed.

It's all about the time, day, and weather. Everybody on the lake I fish had a tough day today. Frog didn't work, flipping didn't work, blah.

Well I'm going out with my brothers friend today on a new big pond, well at least new to me, and I I'm gonna use my usual baits. Chatterbait, senko, fluke, frog. He says frogs, and toads work pretty well there. So we'll see how it goes.

Good luck , brother. Getting back out myself on Sunday.

Well I went out. Didn't catch anything. Had about a 5 pounder jump on my bait and pulled my rod into the water. I saved the rod but the fish was gone.

My friend caught 2 bass. One on topwater and one on a worm. This new pond is going to be my goto spot from now one. Just because of the topwater success rate.

Might go back out tonight for some frogging. Maybe not. Let's see

Great morning at Lox today. I stumbled onto some decent fish out in the flats. The grass is pretty thick in some areas out there. Good fishing right now though. If you find one, odds are you'll find several more in the same area.

There is a big floating island at the entrance of the north/south running canal right now. Comes up quick if you're running through there on plane. Just a heads up.

The gates were open at the spillways. Water was getting pulled out pretty good. Be aware of it if you stop in front of one of them.

Saturday 7/25/14, Went out to Alligator Alley MM 41 west, then north and around the weir.  On the run out we hit something big in about 8 feet of water.  Most likely a gator.  No apparent damage.   Went out with a friend and it was brutal hot and humid.  We started with top water early,  Chugbug and a torpedo.  After a half hour of nothing we were both throwing plastics.   Today the catch of the day was the mudfish.  We caught a bunch and some good size ones.  If we were in a mudfish tournament we would have placed.

We ended up with 5 bass and a bunch of big mudfish.  We finished at 11:00 when the weather started to turn and storm clouds rolled in.  Just got the boat in the garage when the sky opened up.  I always nice to be out in the boat but a little less humidity would be nice. :hot-sun-192:

Yeah the humidity is brutal right now, George. Sounds like the bass have begun their migration back into the glades again.

Skunked today. A few bites and nothing landed. Too hot and no rain!

The mudfish bite was on today tho...

Caught a one pound and had a 3 on but it hopped off as I went to swing it in the boat

Went out yesterday 7/27 to L67, headed west along the trail, and north towards Holiday.  Started the morning throwing frogs and other topwaters which produced two massive mudfish.  Then started throwing 10in Culprit worms (watermelon) and Zoom Trick worms (junebug), managed to land around 7 bass with the largest being 3.2 lbs.  Fished till around noon, it was just too hot to be out there.  So, this is my first summer bass fishing, is this the standard pattern for the summer time fish?  Does it always slow down this much?

Summertime Sadness. The lake heats up, oxygen levels decrease, Bass go into a sort of hibernation. Our water levels here in Florida are pretty shallow so the weather really affects them. It can depend on the place you are fishing too. I have had good luck fishing summertime in certain lakes that have moving water in a shaded area. My PB 11 lb 7 oz fish came mid August, right before dark. Was caught hunkered in a bush near moving water off a point which drains into a lake. They are still feeding though. Evening bite is always your best bet.

But yeah, for me, it has REALLY dogged down the past week. The mudfish are biting right now tho lol.

I haven't been out to the Holiday area for a while, but with the water levels going up, fishing in the canals will slow down some. The fish will start pushing back into the marsh soon if they already haven't.

Add in the heat and it just makes it worse. For the fish and the fisherman. Early morning and evening should be the best. You can still get some pretty good bags even in the dead of summer though.

I'm almost always off the water by noon during the summer. It's just too d**n hot. It would take some freakishly good fishing for me to handle an all day trip right now.

Water temp out there is 90+. Water is way up. Bites come early or late. I cant wait until Nov. gets here. Try Lox out in the flats before the crap grows up too high.

I just got back into fishing and am seriously fishing now. I got back into it in March so I don't know anything about the colder weather. Can you still fish bass in Florida during the colder weather?

Short answer, yes.

Though I will add this; bass down here are notorious for shutting down for a bit when the temp drops.

But winter even with them shutting it down here and there, winter tends treat you better than the dog days of summer would.
