Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 Personally, if the waters up, I head into the flats before the canals. I just enjoy it more. Quote
JellyMan Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Frog bite is on fire here in North Florida! Caught 7 in about 20 min and broke off on a solid 10lb + fish. Was not prepared with a frog setup today and was throwing 12lb P-Line Flouroclear. Definitely need to make a frog only setup. Quote
hawgenvy Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Jellyman, please get some 40-50 lb braid to tow your frogs and toads. The big pig in my member photo (no, not me, the fish) was caught on a Zoom Horny Toad w/ 50 lb. braid. 1 Quote

zachb34 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Went out to lox and caught one dink that's an improvement believe it or not Quote
basslovr Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Hey Jellyman, there's a good chance I'll be up on the Santa Fe in about three weeks or so.....what section of the river you fishing? Quote

piscicidal Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I fished Lox last Saturday and Sunday. Had pretty good luck both days...caught 17-18lb five fish limits with a big one each day (5lb- Saturday, 7lb- Sunday). I lost two big ones on Sunday that would have put me in the mid-20s. Like Eric said, you have to watch out for the storms...I've been dodging them pretty good, but got trapped on Saturday. I pushed it too close, stayed fishing too long out west and couldn't outrun the storms coming in from the east. I tied the boat up to the 3rd spillway, went up on the spoil bank and rode it out. Not fun...sitting in the mud with lightning crashing around trying to keep an eye out for gators. 1 Quote

I know the area well and there is no shelter anywhere out west. On top of that levee your the high ground around. Any doubt about the weather and I head for the Alley. I guess its just the old fart in me!! Be careful, those little ones need you to return. Other then that, GOOD FISHING AS USUAL! Quote

Other then that, GOOD FISHING AS USUAL! Yeah...I didn't want to sit up on the levee because it is about the highest thing around. SO I went and crouched down at the base of the levee down near the water. Not sure how much safer that was with all the alligators around. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 23, 2014 Super User Posted July 23, 2014 Next on 7 News! (Insert overly dramatic music here) Man viscously slain by alligator at Loxahatchee. The only thing found was his boat and a poop stain on the base of a levee.... 1 Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted July 23, 2014 Super User Posted July 23, 2014 I don't know my way around the flats at Lox, but if the weather is touch and go I am like George, the Alley has bridges, tie off and shoot the breeze. Mike, Lox treats you well, heck any where you go usually treats you well, lol... Fished MM35, Miami Canal North, on Sunday and I caught for the first time in while a 20lb bag on just top water bites. 1 Quote
piscicidal Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I love Lox. Tournament season for me is Nov-May and I didn't fish Lox once. From May-Jun, I like going to Lox and just getting away from it all. It is the opposite of tournament fishing...I go out there on my timetable and just work on techniques and finding fish without the constraints of a 3:00 weigh in. I think I am onto something out there right now. I lost two giants on Sunday, I saw the one...she came 100% out of the water. This fish was 7-8lb. The one I lost, I didn't see but I think was bigger. I'm on a goal to break my PB this month out there. 3 Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 23, 2014 Super User Posted July 23, 2014 I'm looking forward to getting back out there. I haven't been to Lox since the water was way down. I'm hoping my TM switch shows up tomorrow so I can get it installed. Offshore saltwater on Friday, hoping to hit the refuge on Saturday or Sunday. C'mon Mike, share those details. Whatcha got happening. Quote
NDH Fishing Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I've gotten equal amounts of hits on any bait I throw at them, but because there is so vegetation in the water this time of year, I have had to stick to weedless baits. Topwater frogs in particular have been VERY successful, the Spro frog, or any other variant of a skirted, weedless, topwater frog has worked wonders. Quote
Basstatmaster Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Looks like someone is fishing Carlton Arms Orlando? Quote

hawgenvy Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 If you don't mind, could you give this newbie bank fisherman some pointers on fishing a Toad? Or anybody!? 1) Texas rig (or Texspose) 4/0 EWG on 40-50 lb braid 2) Pull toad so it bubbles over open water, around cover, over lily pads, across weeds, or along shoreline 3) After top water explosion, stay calm, count to 3 and reel down just till you feel pull of bass, then do a hefty hook set 4) Reel in angry bass 5) Big smile 6) Release fish Quote

JellyMan Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Anybody know exactly what this is? Saw this floating in the canal while moving between lakes. NWS. Turn down the volume if you are at the office. Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Wow!! That definitely looks like intestines to me. Is there any farm land along the shoreline close to there? Quote
