I took my boy bream fishing today and we managed to catch a nice bass without hooking it. My boy was realing in a nice bream and the bass hit it, I tossed it back in the water a few times before we got it in. We got it on a zebco with 6lb test line. This has got him hooked on bass fishing now. I'm glad I got to share this memory with him!

Hahaha awesome! Good looking catches by the young man.

He caught every kind of fish but a spec in one trip lol the bass just kept coming back for the bream and finaly got mananged to get lodged in it's mouth for a few seconds.I pulled it on top on the grass and grabbed it. She must be just getting off of a bed and starving. We was only about a foot from the bass when she was trying to eat it.

I bet he was. All it takes is the most simplest experience that to us is not a big deal, but in the eyes of a child it can spark something....

Well today was good and bad. Went to the bait shop bought some stuff. Did my taxes next door.then went to walmart and got a lews baitcaster and berkley rod. Strung up the power pro casted a couple times. Caught a fish. Checked the line for frays.... swing on the cast and wammmm... watched my brand new xcalibur crank bait fly away..... why on earth do i have such issues with braided line? No idea. I gave up and put trilene 12lb mono on it. Kvd crankbait and fish were biting. All dinks but love the reel and rod this far. Never buying power pro again.

We've been catching 90% of our fish on a weightless texas rigged fluke. We put a very small weight on if it is a little windy. Using a Mardi gras or watermenlon candy color. My husband won the team tournament day with the PVA (Paralyzed Veterans Assoc,) using a fluke or follow up with with a craw, if they miss the fluke. He and his partner weighed in  22 lbs of bass, nearly 10 lbs ahead of 2nd.

What type knot? Use palomar with a little extra tag end. If your not careful it can slide through the split ring very easy.

I used a palomar knot with a quarter cm tag. The line broke right near the rod tip. I know it wasnt the rods fault. The line felt rough every 8 feet or so. Brand new too.

Its my own fault. I should of stopped spooling it when I noticed it.

Sorry about your lure. I have been using PP for years with zero problems. Brand new PP is smooth to the touch, if you were feeling the line rough every few feet, something wasn't right. I just spooled up my new reel with PP yesterday as a matter of fact, fished it today already with 0 problems. Look into the culprit before you discount that braid. It's great and walmart sells it cheap.  What lb test are you throwing?

That sucks man

It wasnt smooth. Maybe i got a bad batch... who knows. I miss the fedility of braid already but mono does have some benifits.

Mono does have its benefits, but imho, braid's  benefits outweighs those of mono. But listen, if mono is working for you, have at it. That's the beauty of fishing, we all gravitate to what works for us. Good luck next time you go out.  :occasion14:

This is what ive come conclusion too.

Braid pros compared to mono..

Stronger, thin diameter, casting ability, seems to behave better in water (for jigs).

Mono pros compared to braid.

Effected less by wind, less likely to tangle in trees/heavy cover. More line play can be benificial in some situations.

I don't know about you, I also found that braid has better bite detection properties over that of mono. What's is your take on that?

It does but thats where I like mono better. Sometimes when the line is tight with braid, a fish will go to suck it up and doesnt like how it reacts... mono tends to stretch and its not as alarming to the fish IMO.

I use braid every day, haven't had a lure break off on cast in years.  I suppose an anomaly can happen like a bad batch of line, which I've yet to experience, or a nick in a guide which I have experienced maybe once or twice. Other than that I can think of only 2 reasons, the line was weak due to an abrasion or the knot was tied poorly.

Lots of florida people have problems with power pro.  Go to the fs forum and read the thousands of pages about it. Lots describe the same thing as you do, sections of rough line.  Theres also power pro counterfeit line from china, though since shimano makes so much in china you gotta wonder if its really counterfeit.  Theres also the theory that walmart buys up manufacturers seconds and sells it.   Maybe you just fish water like I do that is full of wood, rock and shopping carts.  Braid has zilch abrasion resistance.

I am 100% with snook on this one. The only issue with braid that I had was early on when first started using it. I was using Spiderwire, and that was a mess. I transitioned to PP and all my issues were gone. I have been using it for years ever since. I recognize the fact that braid has its disadvantages, so I am constantly inspecting it when it comes across rough cover for abrasions or nicks.

I like the detection on the line with braid and the feel of it, but I've had a fair share of issues with braid. My spiderwire braid is absolute garbage. It snaps so easily. My sufix braid fades. My friends power pro gets an absurd amount of wind knots.

So I prefer the sufix as fading is the least of the 3 evils.

Experimenting with this setup. Big fluke on a gambler hook/blade. Looks good in the water.

The lipless crank seems to be the choice of fish recently. Bass, peas and snakes all have been hitting them in the same areas. Pretty fun fighting a snakehead on 12lb yozuri with loose drag. Been having more accidental snakehead success than when I go hunting for them. The peas have been aggressive for sure.
