Do You Catch A Lot Or 1-2

When it comes to a day of fishing at your normal lake......

 

do you consider it a good day if you catch 1-3 bass?

 

or is a good day catching 4 or more?

 

as for me, i have never gone out and caught more than 2 in one outing.  ever.  for me, a f\good day is at least getting one and being tickled pink if i happen to catch more than that.

 

im starting to think that maybe, just maybe, its because i always use cranks/lipless cranks.  if i were to use plastics along with all the other lures, if that would change....................hmmmmmmm  first on my list this year.....PLASTICS!!!

1-2 fish for a whole day of fishing (8+ hours) would be kind of lousy for me, unless those fish were huge. But when i fish weekdays after work, if I catch 1-2 fish in a couple hours I'm happy. A "good" day for me is when i catch at least 4 or more for a whole day outing. 4 is a little on the low end.  I think if you start using soft-plastics, you will see your catch rate skyrocket. If you open your options a little more, you can let the fish tell you what they will bite on. Of course i get skunked sometimes as well.That being said, if you're happy with catching 1-2 fish an outing, then who cares, right?

i'd love to catch more then 0-2 every time out............sometimes wonder if my lake sucks but me being limited to certain lures is most likely the issue

Gotta love low pressure lakes. There have been more than a few days where one can put a limit of 2.5 pound smallies in the boat in 15 minutes. An average day is about 8+ fish. But there are no bass in Maine, so no one plan a vacation

I catch the majority of my bass on soft plastics. Mostly senkos, brush hogs, worms and salamanders. But sometimes they wont touch the rubbers and they tear into the hardbaits. Most days for me it's the opposite, but sometimes its neither or both. But different presentations would help I'm sure. If you catch a bass on a crank, then throw a weightless senko or T-rigged brush hog right where you caught the crankbait bass. Chances are there are more bass around it, and soft plastics are a much more life-like presentation, in both appearance and texture.

It depends on the time of year in the dead of winter 1 or 2 bass is good. In the other 3 seasons I catch a lot more. I am always willing to chage techniques, water depths, structure, areas to find what the fish want that day. Most of the fun for me is trying different techniques until I start seeing results. Mix it up some more and you will see better results.

As for the fish, all I really care about is getting a good sized one. I have a lot of days where my numbers are low at my local lake. Occasionally I don't catch any at all. But catching one quality fish is better than catching half a dozen tiny ones, in my opinion.

1-3 bass a day is good if there all over 4lbs for me. 20-50 fish days are pretty common around here on many lakes. I'm still happy catching 5-10 a day but I fish lakes known for quality and not quantity.

Agree with everyone. Use soft plastics more and you will catch a ton more fish. Throw in some spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and such too!

Usually it depends on where I'm fishing. I have a couple spots that I can usually catch 4+ in couple hours very easily and if I spend a longer day and I find em, I can catch 20+. But those spots are usually smaller fish, sometimes none bigger than 12 inches.

My other two go-to's have fewer, but bigger fish. Catching 1-2 fish here is usually an average start, but in these places I always feel that I can find em and catch em. I would say my average at these places is around 3 fish an outing, but there have been times where I would catch up to 6+ on these lakes -very good days. The fish in these places are usually around 15+ inches which is okay. I fish these areas because they have a lot of good shore access, not because the numbers or quality of the fish. I plan on fishing more new areas this year - Also got a kayak to help increase numbers.

The legal daily limit is 8 bass with a 14" minimum length; my goal is to limit out!

My average last year was 30 bass per trip. Didn't track in 2012, but 2011 was 28 bass per trip, so pretty much the same numbers. A lot depends on your waters, your trip length and your goals (if any). Those are just averages, but my goal most every trip out is to catch 50 bass or more. I actually had one day last year where I broke 100, but that was only the 4th time that has ever happened over a period of many, many years.

I was just thinking about this today when I was supposed to be working. My lake has lower numbers but quality fish for MN. I can go out and catch 2-3 fish but they average 4 lbs. but down the road I can catch 20-40 fish on an outing but they average 1 lb. What's better? Not sure. I like both.

In my experience when I decide to get stubborn and stick with a technique instead of paying attention to what the fish want, my catch rate suffers. I do that with frogs all the time. I love throwing frogs!

If I'm fishing an hour or two after work I'll go where I know I'll catch maybe one big guy and a mix of sunfish, trout, bass etc depending on which side I fish. I'm lucky enough to be near a spillway where the little lake is stocked with bass and trout and the lake is loaded. So I catch what I'm trying to there. If I go somewhere new I'm happy to catch what bites.

If I don't catch 15 myself then I'm dissapointed. I'm usually fishing for better quality. Some tournaments I'm hoping to get 6-7 big bites a day.

When the weather is right on a certain stretch of river if two people can't catch atleast 60-70 bass between 1-5lbs there in a day it's a bad day.

It all depends for me as I go very diferent places with different approaches (boat/bank/hike-up, length etc.) I have some skunk days, unfortunately especially closer waters. I am generally happy to catch one. The most I have ever caught was probably 20ish, so someone above talking about 20+ average going 100 sounds almost unreal.

 

Anyhow, I too recommend you add some other presentation. They don't have to be plastic, but something you can present in different depth with different speed.

I would say for me an average day is 25-30 bass with another dozen or so pike mixed in. Most of the time my best 5 fish weigh over 13 lbs. During the summer peak season I would say the average is closer to 50 fish days with days approaching the 75 fish mark not too uncommon. 5 fish limits during this period usually range close to 18 lbs with some lakes well over the 20 lb mark... Spring and fall can be tough times in MN with the constant changing weather patterns and fish in transition periods, but if you can figure the pattern for the day it can get crazy...

Classic example- The other day I went fishing at noon, fished all day and only one bite, just before I start to pack up to go... bam. nice little 2#er.  This starts the obsession, and a few minutes later Bam! a nice sized spotted bass...  few minutes later Bam! itty bitty little tiny thing not much bigger than the lure, but its in the boat!  Couple of casts later I'm draggin in a fat ole girl about to pop with eggs ( OK, she was only about 4#'s but it was fun),   I call that an AWESOME day fishing!  I aint no pro so ANYTHING is better than a SKUNK!

If I don't catch over 20 in a day of fishing I feel like the fish beat me, unless I'm focusing on big fish and I fool a couple of them, then I'm alright with just catching 1 or 2.

There are bass in China ? That is a pretty long drive to catch bass. 

 

There aren't any bass in Maine.

 

I usually catch 15-20 bass per day fishing. Early, early, spring and very late fall it is around 10 bass typically. If I go out bass fishing all day and don't get 15-18 lbs for my 5 biggest bass then I feel like I failed and should have been doing something different. Every day I go fishing whether it is fun fishing or I am in  tourney I am trying for 25 lbs in 5 fish. If I get over 22 lbs for my five biggest bass then it has been a good day. I would much rather fish for size then numbers. I have had some days where I have caught over 50 bass but I would much rather catch 10 or more bass all over 3 lbs.

▲▲ i weighed a 27 lb bag in daramiscata (spelling?) In 2004 at a club tourny had a 7lb largemouth and two 5lb smallies in that bag...plus two five lb largemouths.

Led after day one...didnt do crap in day two lol i think i had like 8lbs on a five limit lol
