Flipping Soft Plastics

Hey guys I am planning on flipping soft plastics on a Team Lew's HM85 7'3" XH F and a BB1 Pro 7.1:1 Left Hand model with a 1 1/2oz Eco Pro Tungsten Flipping weight and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what hooks to use and on what soft plastics (preferably craws). Thanks!

That is exactly what I was thinking, Tartan34.  RW, could you elaborate on how flipping with a 1 1/2oz weight and a 3/8oz weighted swimbait hook would benefit the OP.  Also, can you explain your experience flipping with a weighted swimbait hook?  I've never seen nor heard of that....maybe he is on to some secret that we don't know about!

I'm going to be using some of the Owner ZO wire flipping hooks this year.  The other option I like is a straight shank flipping hook

I use a Trokar 4/0 or 5/0 flipping hook snelled with a missle baits d bomb, zoom ultra speed craw, or havoc pit boss

OP, one thing to keep in mind is that when you have a bunch of anglers flipping, try switching baits.  you can still punch with a 1 1/2oz weight and use a finesse style soft plastic.  Make sure to include some french fry style baits or a 4" senko.  Grande Baits makes a lure called the RattleSnake and it is a KILLER bait to flip and pitch around shallow cover.  Thing also works great on a c-rig.

Personal pick would be 1/4 or 3/8 oz weight with a 5/0 trokar tk 130( straight shank) hook. Put a missile baits d bomb on it and that will be one skillet setup. Or if you are punching the same set up but with a 3/4 to 1.5 oz weight. Also the missile baits missile craw is deadly when needing a little smaller presentation.

I like the Trokar anything from 3/0-5/0 straight shank. Baits vary from a beaver to a Smallie beaver,ultra vibe speed craw or one of the big bites baits that looks like a bluegill. All we used to flip was 6inch lizards and if it gets tough that's what I go back to

3 or 4/0 straight shank. I was using havov subwoofers and rage tail products last year.i did well on those

I'd go with a Trokar either a the TK130 (straight shank flippin') or a TK120 (Magworm). Either will work, it just depends on if you want a straight shank or a EWG hook. Either way, both of those hooks are super super sticky and will help you catch a few that you wouldn't normally. As far as a bait, I'd recommend a Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog. It's a very versatile creature bait with a unique profile and action that I don't think bass see TONS of. Otherwise, the D Bomb or Craw Fatty are decent other choices as well as many many more out there.

Flipping a creature bait with a weighted swimbait hook to get a flat profile on the drop with flapping claws and a drag instead of hop on the bottom instead of a nose drop with a bullet weight doesn't work.  Yeah, it's terrible.  Don't try it.  And don't tell anyone because it's a terrible idea......

McAlpine....so you are telling me that the 1 1/2oz flipping weight gets it through the junk, and then it flattens out on the fall because of the weighted swimbait hook?  That isn't clicking in my mind.  I feel that the 1 1/2oz weight would overpower the weighted swimbait hook and cause the bait to continue to drop nose down.  Im confused how the weighted swimbait hook benefits the OP with such a heavy weight pegged above it.

no. hes aying use a swim bait hook instead of a bullet weight. The soft plastic flutters down horizontally rather than plunges nose first

Ok so RW and McAlpine are not answering OP's question, just giving their take on flipping plastics.  I got it now.  I'd be interested to see how a wide gap hook with a chunk of lead on the belly of it, would get through heavy cover.  Interesting.

straight shank hook 3/0-5/0 - tungsten wt. to fit your situation and the zoom super hog is a very reliable bait - if needed, peg the weight.
