Hello again everyone.  Sorry for spamming the forums here with questions but like i said.  I'm new, i have to catch up. lol.  So Literally while i was posting for the first time here, my wife taps me on the shoulder, says happy almost birthday and hands me a 7'1 St. Croix Legend Xtreme medium heavy/fast casting rod.  After jumping up and down like a child with a new toy, i checked the power and action.  She accidentally got me the wrong action.  I was looking for a medium heavy/fast all around rod.  Now bless her heart, she went out and bought me a ridiculously great rod.  It was one of those "wish i had that rod" rod for me.

So my question is.  What can i use this rod for?  Is it still a good all around rod? I read it was good for swimjigs/finesse but i'm wondering if you guys have used a mh/xf rod before and what you guys use it for.  Thanks again in advance.  School me please. Don't want to break her heart and end up returning this.  It was really thoughtful of her.

I'm trying to understand your question here.  If I'm reading it right the rod she got you meets what you are asking for.  That rod is a perfect all around rod for many applications.  Jigs, spinnerbaits, T rigs, etc.  Its a great rod.

Yeah, i guess i was wondering if i even needed to worry about getting a medium heavy in a fast action.  The extra fast action is what worried me in the rod she got.  Seems like a fast action would be more versatile.  Good to hear though, thanks.  Sounds like a keeper.

He had a typo in the beginning, he got a 7'1" mh/xf instead of a mh/f. The reference is down further in his post.

It'd be good for spinnerbaits, swim jigs, light froggin', it'd still be a pretty good all around rod. Xtremes are where it's at man.

Also, I know you don't want to break your girls heart, but I'm sure if you explain it to her she wouldn't mind letting you exchange it for the other one. She obviously wanted to give you the perfect gift given how much she spent on it, so I don't think that'd hurt her feelings. Otherwise, you could sneak away and swap it at a store without her knowing lol

No matter what you do, congrats on your Xtreme they are absolutely amazing rods! I'm hoping to add one more to my arsenal this year myself!

Dang....that is a nice present for sure.  That rod will be great for a multitude of presentations as has already been stated.  Being a newbie, as you stated, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two except in what is printed on the blank :)

I prefer XF actions. Can't really say why, I just do. Enjoy the rod. It will work just fine for you. The only complaint I have about St Croix MH, is its more powerful than anyone else's MH. Its borderline H to me.

Gotcha,  I'd keep it.  Its a great rod and it will perform flawlessly for you.  Your a lucky guy to have a gal that bought you a Legend Xtreme.

I really like the LX rods.  I just ordered a 7'11" one the other day.  I think I'm up to 5 of them.

X2. "Med Hvy" and "Fast" are relative terms anyway. Use and enjoy your gift.

Thanks everyone for the replies and yeah, I am a lucky guy. Didn't expect it for sure. I'm definitely keeping the rod. Feel a lot better about it after reading all your replies. Now if the snow and ice would kindly go away. I can't wait to take it out! Thanks again guys!

you got a great rod. st. croixs XF are probably the fastest on the market. the only thing I wouldn't like using that rod for us crankbaits. aside from that. you got a really good multi purpose rod. enjoy.
