airborne_angler Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I bought some a few years ago and cant seem to find them anymore.I think they are made by Luck E Strike Anyone know where to get em? Anyone else use them, how does everyone like em? Quote
Stasher1 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Being a spinnerbait addict, I bought one a couple years ago...but it has never touched water. It sits in one of my spinnerbait boxes, waiting to be used...along with at least four dozen other brand new SBs that I'll eventually get around to...maybe. Quote
Nick Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Nothing special about it. Most spinnerbaits are as good as another as long as they twirl and have a good hook and balance. Quote

That's the exact opposite of my findings. There are definitely differences in the quality of components used from one manufacturer to the next. If you want a quality SB, you either need to build it yourself or buy one from a smaller custom SB builder, imho. Quote
airborne_angler Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 Trickster has a Rick Clunn Designed Teardrop Shaped blade setup. Its a cross between a Willow and an Indiana blade: http://pescaelchollo.com/images/76848.jpg Quote

Not even close...The profile, type of wire used, blade combination, and color selection are all important factors to consider with spinnerbaits. Especially on pressured waters. I buy spinnerbaits from at least 4 different custom makers, each individually designed to match conditions that I may run into during the tournament season. The trickster was an awesome finesse spinnerbait. War eagles have a similar profile, and are the only mass produced spinnerbait that I buy. 8-) Quote
Revo_Carrot Stix Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Wally world clearanced these 2 years ago. I bought a couple of them for $1.50. I still have a few. The blades are unique if I remember right. I'm almost positive my BPS in town is clearancing them now for $2.88. I have too many spinnerbaits, so I didn't look twice. Quote
airborne_angler Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 The Trickster Spinnerbait isnt listed in the BPS inventory online anymore. All the places I have looked online have a link to BPS,Which doesnt carry it anymore online...Go Figure. Its a vicious circle Quote
Stasher1 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 airborne_angler, PM me your address and I'll send you mine. Quote
Jason Penn Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I bought 1 of these 5-6 years ago because I liked the look of it. It turned out the front bead and clevis ID was just large to slip up on the bend in the wire and screw up the front blade. I do like a bullet head spinnerbait and would love to have some hidden weight baits made with that shape. Quote
Nick Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Tuckman, be sure you change out your War Eagles often. They tend to break at the line tie. Try Hunter Creek spinnerbaits for a very good price with custom components. Esp. in smallie lakes when there is a chop, I can catch catch them on lots of "average" blades as long as I match the conditions, have a good hook, and the blades spin good. (Oh, and put in in front of the boat!) A buddy of mine was fishing with a Skeet Reese $15 spinnerbait, and I nearly fell off the pedestal when he told me how much it cost. He darned near kept up with my $2.50 ones. Quote
scbassin Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Nick, I fish War Eagle Spinner Baits all the time & have yet to have a problem. I have caught a bunch of fish on the one I keep tied on & laying on the deck every time I am on the water. Quote

I just got back from the Atlanta BPS and they're also clearing them out for $2.88 each. Pretty limited selection, though. There were about a half-dozen left (total, 1/4 and 1/2), with the majority of them in a charteuse/blue/green combination. Now that I think about it, that's the reason I only bought one a couple years ago. The color choices were just terrible. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 1, 2011 Super User Posted February 1, 2011 I had the opportunity to listen to Rick Clunn talk a few weeks ago at the KC Sports Show. According to him the Trickster spinnerbait was the smartest, the wisest, the most innovative spinnerbait there has ever been and it wasn't his fault that for the most part it didn't catch on with the angling public. I have a few of these spinnerbaits & I didn't find them to be anything special. But then, I'm not as wise or as smart or as deeply intuitive and spiritual as Rick Clunn, so maybe I don't know squat about spinnerbaits. Oh well, I'll have to carry on with my limited and stunted knowledge. So it goes. Quote
