I have the tourney pro and team gold. And have no problem throwing lite baits. If your looking between the two you mentioned I'd go with the t pro!!!

I own a Lew's BB1, BB1 Pro, and 4 Tournament Mgs. I am slowly working towards replacing all my reels with the BB1 Pro because personally I don't like the magnetic brakes because they are only in effect towards the end of the cast not the beginning when the brake system is most important. Keep in mind that with the BB1 Pro it has an externally adjustable centrifugal brake system and is made to throw light baits. I can throw a 1/4oz bait on my BB1 Pro and a 7'0" Abu Garcia Veritas Medium heavy more than 65 yards (67.5 to be exact) while I have to really control my casts with the magnetic brakes due to an often backlash on the Tourney MG. Hope this helps

ok .... I got a question so I am bumping this thread as my question is the same........ but for crankbaits.

 

ordered a new mid diver (think DT10 to 5xd rod)

 

which one is going to give me the better performance in the crankbait arena?

how much bigger is the BB1pro in your hand than the TP?

does it really throw it THAT FAR?.... I have supertuned with Boca TPs now, so it needs to impress me.

 

on paper from what I can find the only thing I "don't like" about the BB1pro is the shiny black, I have come to like the muted gray of the TP.

I have MG's, Tournaments, T-Pros, BB1, Team Pro, Super Duty and BB1 Pros. All are stock except one T-Pro and I just added the 95 Lews handle to that one. The BB1 series palms just as well as the T-Pro. The cast control is unique in that it employs arms that sit on rocker pins. I bought my first BB1 Pro right after they were introduced and recently added two more, all in 6.4 to 1. The BB1 Pro and BB1 cast as far as my Team Pro and or T-Pros. They are effective with 1/4 to 7/8 ounce baits where the standard BB1 seems to shine at the 3/8 ounce lower level. The cast control is extremely effective and the progression of settings works well. Having the external adjustment is very convenient albeit, I have yet to need to make an adjustment once set. The cast control is very effective with wind resistent baits.

I use the standard BB1 for mid level and deep divers. I have the BB1 Pro on my shallow/squarebill rod. The T-pro has that smaller, lighter spool so it is a better finesse reel. The BB1 Pro is my favorite of all the models I have to date. If I would have waited a few months, I would have chosen them over the standard BB1, not saying that isn't a great reel. It is. The gloss black wears better than the matt finish I think. I see no reason to add bocas to my reels. They cast as far as I need and we make long casts when covering deep plats for smallmouth. I have a bb1, and my cousin has a tourney pro.

Tourney pro - better to palm, good for lighter baits.

Bb1- good with Crank baits and mid weight lures 3/8 - 5/8 oz

There different reels for different applications.

so it seems for normal jigs and whatnot I can stick with my TPs

 

for cranking I am hearing a SLIGHT edge to the BB1pro even if only the reason is a better IPT for deeper cranks (21")

Also, on the regular BB1 not sure about BB1 pro on the 5.5:1 it dosent have instant anti reverse so there is room to reel backwards? (not  much) its kind of hard to desrcibe over text so just google it haha, they say it helps feel what your crankbaits are doing.

The bb1 and bb1 pro both have multi stop instead of instant anti reverse in the low ratio models. There's about an 1/8" of back play in the handle before it grabs. It's said to help with not ripping hooks out. Let's them have it for a split second longer before the hooks set.

I Saw a video of someone talking about it being for feeling the crankbait..

Yeah that's what they say. I personally don't notice any of those claims but I also am not a pro fisherman.

I went with the BB1 pro and have been throwing cranks on it and I have been very impressed so far but I do not own a Tournament pro so I can not compare to it.
