Storing plastics in a tackle box..

for those of you who use tackle boxes to store your plastics, which boxes do you recommend, and how do you do it? Do you organize by color, size of the bait, type, etc?

My boat doesn't have a lot of storage so I cant use big bins or anything, but I use carabiners now and they  get more frustrating than anything...

I don't carry full bags of my plastics. I get small 'snack size' ziplock bags and carry 5 to 6 of each bait to a bag. After carefully putting the baits inside so they're not bent, I roll the bag up like a cigar. I can carry quite a decent array of plastics without crowding my tackle bag. I leave the original bags at home with the remaining baits and restock the ziplock bags as needed. I also carry an extra ziplock for torn baits to be repaired later.

I had a bunch of new bags of plastics I bought for the coming year and no place left to store them (I admit to carrying a LOT of unnecessary stuff : ).  They were just tossed into the rod locker and were in the way.

I recently went to WallyWorld and bought two plastic "shoe boxes" w/snap-on lids for .97 ea.  I left all my new plastics in their original bags and stacked them into these two boxes, along with some that I removed from their regular boxes and placed into qt. size freezer bags.  Snapped on the top and wrote the contents by name and it order on the lid.  Those two boxes fit nicely underneath the console and I like it actually better than using the normal 3700 type boxes.  I can find what I want easily and I get to leave the newer items in the original bag.

what does every one use as far as plano type boxes though?

I always used the 3700 Plano boxes.  Keep an eye on WalMart.  Lots of times they get boxes in that feature satchel like handles or double layered.  I have two of the latter that have topwaters on one level and jerkbaits on the other.  The second one has shakeyhead goodies on one level and dropshot stuff on the second.  You never know what you'll find there.

Plano 3730. they are tall enough to store your plastics in there original bags. If you dont use any of the dividers you can actually fit quite a few bags in them. They have them at most Walmarts.

I use the 3700 series box that is one, deeper compartment. (just looked it up, the model number is 3731, they are 3.25" deep where most are only 2" deep.)

Keep the baits in the original package. You can file the packages in two side by side rows. Depending on the bait you can probably get about 20 or more bags in one 3700. And the baits stay straight, plus you have the package available to refer to size/color when it is time to restock.

I have one marked "finesse", one for "tubes", one for "critters", etc. Makes it easy to find just the bait you want quickly.
