Mattfrom_NJ Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I have a line on a abu stx for $70 that I think would be great on my Veritas as my all around rod. I also have a Cumara paired w a citica G6 that I want to use as a jig and worm rod. Both reels are 6:4:1 and was wondering if I'd be better off purchasing a higher speed reel for my jig and worm rod. In other words should I buy another 6:4:1 or is that just redundant? Quote
OkeechobeeAngler Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 70.00 is a good price as long as nothing is wrong with it. Quote
Alpha Male Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I personally dont worry about it that much. especially when its that good of a deal. Im assuming its a gen 3 STX? in the gen3 its only 3" per turn. Quote
Mattfrom_NJ Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 Says 100% mech but no way to tell until it's in my hands and my money is in theirs Quote

jsc4324 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 For that price if in good shape I would grab it. It's a minimal difference in IPT in comparison to the savings on buying new. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I would get a higher speed reel myself, but if you like the 6:1 there is nothing wrong with it. I just like a faster pickup rate for jigs and t-rigs... Mitch Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 ya only get three different speeds 6.4, 7.1, or 8.0- I use a 6.4 for all my worm and jig set ups Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 If you aint going to buy it, send me the sellers info.... Id buy it in a heart beat! 1 Quote

Super User Montanaro Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 It'll be fine for jigs. If it were a 5 I'd say no. 1 Quote
donk Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. As already mentioned, if reel is in good shape, it will serve you well for all techniques on the water. If I specifically was interested in crankin big deep divers, a low speed crankin reel might be the best choice. But for an all around, all techniques, you'll be fine. Quote

Alpha Male Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Make that 26" per turn. Hootie opps. i meant to say 3" difference. from the 6.4:1 to the 7.1:1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 All I use is 5.8:1, never had a problem with any technique! Quote
