Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 9, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 9, 2014 For 47 yrs I always had a place to go...33 yrs at the same place...Now It's Over. I finally retired, Friday was my last day... My kids keep asking me how I feel....I really don't know yet...Relieved, worried, a little lost, and yes a little scared. I guess tomorrow morning will be a good test when the alarm doesn't go off at 6:00, and I stand in the kitchen getting a cup of coffee and say "Ok Mikey, Now What!!" But we do have a plan, we're selling the house giving the kids what they want, the rest to the Church, Habitat for Humanity or whoever. We plan on buying a motor home and go see what we can see, go where we go,... But for now, all I think about is that "It's Over" Mike 3 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 Congrats Mike, I know it's hard at first as I watched my father go thru it, but it should be a time of happiness. You paid your dues now go enjoy the fruits of your labor. Congrats and good luck as you start the next chapter in your life. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 The general sentiment at this time is "Congratulations". When I retired I never really knew what to say to that. Some embrace retirement, others no not. Like all transitions it takes a little time to acclimate but you may find being on "Mike L" time quite pleasant. I certainly do. For me this day marked the beginning of the most satisfying and yet the most challenging time of my live. Believing that the years behind me have prepared me well, was most comforting when looking ahead. Your plans going forward, to travel, have always sounded very appealing to me. Good luck . Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 Wow. Congratulations! Right? I'm not sure I'll ever be able to 'retire'. You can only travel so much, fish so much, go out to eat so much. Personally I enjoy the client interactions, being busy, tackling projects, and setting goals. My wife and I have discussed opening a high end Mexican restaurant at some point, which will keep us buys during our 'semi retirement' years. 1 Quote

I suppose you could look at it as ....It is now getting started with the rest of your life. Time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Good luck and have as much fun as possible! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 9, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted March 9, 2014 Thanks Fellas Its just that you work everyday to provide for your family, you never think that some day your time will come.. I'm sure every father and husband feels the same. You never think that there will ever be a time that you can finaly relax, knowing that the kids are fine and now it becomes all about you. It's never been all about me and what I want to do, or where I want to go! It'll just take some time getting used to I guess But I admit, its exciting to plan and think about it !! Mike 1 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted March 10, 2014 Super User Posted March 10, 2014 congrats mike! enjoy it like other said you'll get used to ! Quote
The Rooster Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 If you get bored, you can always get a job at Walmart. Seriously, congrats. I still have a long time to go before any kind of retirement, if ever. Dad retired last year and since I work for myself doing home improvements he decided to join me to have something to do and make extra money. It's been very satisfying working with my dad. Not your traditional father/son time, but great all the same. Most recently, we got to hang gutter in a cold February rain! LOL. Quote
dave Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 My dad retired six years ago and my mom died a year ago. He is busier now than when he worked. I am sure you will find something to do. My uncle retired and moved to Florida. When he gets to feeling like he would like to work again, he goes down to the beach and forgets why he would possibly want to go back to work. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 10, 2014 Super User Posted March 10, 2014 Now it's time to fish fish fish! Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted March 10, 2014 Super User Posted March 10, 2014 Never have got tired of fishing. I may have to change what I chase as far as bass, panfish or whatever just for a different view....but love being on the water no having to listen to B.S. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 10, 2014 Super User Posted March 10, 2014 So how was your first day of retirement? I hope all went well. Quote
