Since there has been a lot of buzz here lately about the new Curado, I figured I'd share this video.  It also talks about how the new braking system and X-ship works.  It is worth 9 minutes of your time.

I'm sure its a great reel, but the spool stuff annoys me.  Are they saying that their previous spools weren't balanced?  Why wasn't that a selling point on the Metanium or Chronarch CI4?

Some good information but lets see it fish

Read through here.  I did an initial impression and an after fishing complete with catching over 30 fish on it up to almost 6lbs.

It may annoy you, but as a machinist by trade, I appreciate what they have done.  I have worked some tight tolerances. + or -  .010 is the norm for our aircraft parts.  Unless specified. The tighter they can get that tolerance the better.  Nothing is absolutely perfect and it looks like Shamano is about there with the new spool.

Its a heck of a reel, there is no question.  I fished one of mine both days this weekend on my *** H rod, with 65 # Smackdown....and landed a bunch of fish with an Air Frog.

With this reel, unlike any others in my arsenal, I felt totally in control of the fish at all times.  It was easy pulling them out of the grass or pads, and a total joy to fish with.  I caught a bunch of fish, the largest being around 5#s.

I have total confidence in this reel.

I may have not construed what I mean correctly.  I have no problem with Shimano trying create a spool with better balance and better tolerances.  However, what annoys me is that they are passively saying that their previous iterations where not balanced or out of balance which I do not believe.  If shimano had been releasing reels with spools that were out of balance,, we would have heard of it.  Heck, if anyone had, we would have stayed away from them.

If this new spool was THAT revolutionary, why wouldn't it have been touted in their higher end lines?

Ah very true.  I get what your saying.  But we all know how marketing is in the fishing world.  If they improved machining the spool by even .001 then it technically runs more true!  It is a ploy to get the "avid" fans to buy the new reels. Based on what I have researched the "G" was a PR nightmare and they're trying to repair their reputation.  I on the other hand just purchased my first Shimano baitcaster.  They have me now!

Because they said that they just came out with this process?
