Looking to buy a new rod and reel (spinning) this year. Looking to spend around 250 all together. I like Abu Garcia products. But open to all suggestions! Making a trip to bass pro next weekend.

Personally I like st. croix and shimano spinning rods. so either the St. Croix Avid, or the Shimano Crucial  with a pfleuger president or arbor...

Well since you like Abu, take a look at the 6'9" ML Vendetta and/or Veritas. I have the Vendetta and it's paired with an Orra S20 spnning reel and I like it a bunch. Falls below your $250 budget, so you have some $$ left for gear.

For that budget, I'd go with the following:

*** Black ML 7'1:  $100

Shimano Saros FA 2500: $140

It isn't an Abu combo, but this is the one I'd buy if I had a $250 budget.

spend more on the rod than the reel, get a 20 size Pfleuger President (59.99) and then look for a rod.

any rod thats ML with a F tip will work great. i like a 7' ML rod. but its up to you. just play around with the rods, make sure they balance good, are light and comfortable for you to use!

also, if you run braid with a fluoro leader on your DropShot Setup, you will feel a LOT more. its makes those ML rods ultra sensitive.
