EdsBar Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Just seeing if there was anywhere where I could get some casts in yet...A nice spot on the CT river....A pond that receives 12 hours of sunlight...haha anything! I'm dying! Quote
Smokinal Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Thawed? We won't be open until the end of April by the looks of it. Quote
Tugmaster Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Still all iced over here! Over 50 today but cooling back down. We're gonna need quite a few warm days before we ice out the freshwater spots. It's been a tough winter! Quote
grampa1114 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If you have to get something wet...check the rivers... Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 8, 2014 Super User Posted March 8, 2014 WNY still in lock down, and will be for several weeks yet. I am going ice fishing tomorrow, then I leave for Florida for 2 weeks, and expect to ice fish when I get back. I am hoping for an April 20th first day on the water. Quote
Craiger12 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 The lower Housy is open. As far as lakes/ponds, only ice fishing going on for the near future. Quote
Smokinal Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 If you have to get something wet...check the rivers... Drove by the river that runs through town today and still socked in as far as you can see...shore to shore. WNY still in lock down, and will be for several weeks yet. I am going ice fishing tomorrow, then I leave for Florida for 2 weeks, and expect to ice fish when I get back. I am hoping for an April 20th first day on the water. That's about when I'll be out as well. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 There is still well over 2 feet of ice in Maine and Vermont Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 around here (Nashua NH) only the Merrimack river is open. Nashua river is solid. Water is moving fast, Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 Nope nothing is thawed he either. Quote
bmac31 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 So I'm not the only one slowly rolling past lakes. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 Metro Boston is still very frozen, including ocean inlets in my neighborhood. The 'Sox will be playing Fenway before it's thawed, methinks... Quote
jhoffman Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Find a spring fed trout stream, it will be wide open. They dont freeze, youll be trout fishing but its fishn. Ive been considering trout fishing myself, huge background in it just dont have the drive like I used too. However this long winter is encouraging when my parents live streamside to one of the best streams in PA. Quote
bmac31 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Just saw a guy fishing the CT river in North Haven on Sackett Point rd. Quote
EdsBar Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 I drove out Haddam way and the CT River is thawed in that portion of the state. Could be worth just to go out and cast to try out some new set ups. Quote

Could be worth just to go out and cast to try out some new set ups. I might get out and do the same in the lower Housy. It will feel good to wet a line. Might get lucky and hook up with a striper, but not likely this early. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 11, 2014 Super User Posted March 11, 2014 The Mohawk River has a very thin vein of open water running between the ice in some spots, but in other spots there are still huge ice jams. Lakes and ponds are still under 2 feet of snow and ice, and more snow is on the way this week. I feel like winter is slowly pushing me out of the northeast. I'm hoping for April 1st, but I think I'm being overly-optimistic. Quote
Tugmaster Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Some of the ponds are starting to ice out a bit. We got another cold snap tomorrow. Supposed to be above freezing all next week. Pacing the floor waiting. Quote
carlm01 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 The forecast going ahead looks good , next week seems to warm up and even better in a couple of weeks ...Maybe by the first week of April Quote
