Cast_And_Blast Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 First I would like to say sorry if this is in the wrong section! Where do you all find your topographic maps? I have searched and searched and just can't seem to find some that I can access without paying that are actually good or maybe I'm just searching for the wrong things? Maybe I'll have to pay,but I would prefer not to. Any help you all had would be greatly appreciated. Tight lines! -Slater Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 8, 2014 Super User Posted March 8, 2014 I know here in NYS, you can find topo-maps on the DEC website. They aren't very detailed, but they're pretty accurate. I print out maps of all the lakes I fish and keep them in a binder. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted March 8, 2014 Super User Posted March 8, 2014 Here's a good start, http://www.navionics.com/en/webapp 3 Quote

Do you use a sonar unit with GPS? Unless you have a photographic memory, the map needs to be with you on the water to be you on the water. Tom -Slater Quote

SCangler91 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Just downloaded the Navionics app for my iPhone since I don't have a built in GPS on my fish finder and it works well. Has all the main lakes, but not going to have reservoirs or smaller bodies of water like that. 1 Quote

Tom -Slater There are only maybe 3 or four lakes i plan on fishing that i would like to have a topo map for. I was planning on maybe printing it out somehow since our unit does not have a built in gps. I couldn't figure out how to use the mapper.acme.com but the navionics one has helped a good bit. Thanks for the help guys! Quote
mnbassman23 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Ok, explain to me how to use it then. every body of water I searched was just blue! Jeff same here please... Did you guys click Topo in the top right corner when you are in the program? It is set standard on "Map" which will have all the lakes blue in color. Satelite is also in the top right corner. 1 Quote

Thanks for the help guys! The Navonics Premium paper maps are $20 each, not all lakes are available. If one of the lakes has a lot of topo features and the bass relate to isolated or off shore deep structure or channel bends, topo maps are essential. Try 1 map if available, well worth $20.Tom Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 8, 2014 Super User Posted March 8, 2014 The Web App on the Navionics web site has current topo maps for the US and is updated daily. It is viewable only. It is the same data that is downloaded when updating a Navionics map card with Freshest Data. Quote

Super User Catt Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 It appears someone wants to make money off their state/county lake maps! Topo on the land is fine but no lake! Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 You can view Navionics maps on their website. I know here in Wisconsin the DNR has topo maps on their website that you can download and print. They aren't super detailed, but they'll give you an idea, Maybe your state DNR has something similar. Otherwise, if you're not looking for a ton of different maps, hotmaps make pretty decent paper charts for $10 to $15 a piece. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 One other good source for maps is Atlanticmapping.com. Their maps (hard copy only) are some of the best I've ever seen, but they only include major water bodies. Quote

Super User 00 mod Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 No biggie. There are plenty of other maps out there. Just always on the lookout for other maps. Thanks Jeff Quote

Super User WRB Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 Try Navoinics direct, Amazon or Cabelas depending on the lake. Tom Quote
volchuck Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 navionics.com and click on the webapps at the top right of the page. you can zoom in on most big lakes, pickwick and most (if not all in may area) of the TN river impoundments once you zoom in fully will load the full topo of the lake with roadbeds, creeks, etc noted...
