Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted March 8, 2014 Super User Posted March 8, 2014 Who remembers the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, books? They have changed all the illustrations in them! Those books damaged me as a 7 year old child. As I'm sure they did most every other child in my day. Yet you couldn't stop reading them. Even knowing you were gonna have nightmares. Some of the stories were actually pretty disturbed. However, the illustrations were truly dark, twisted, and down right deranged. They truly were the stuff nightmares are made from. That's the best way I can phrase it. Never have I seen anything more terrifying than those ink drawings. The drawings themselves coupled with the imagination of a child were pure and utter terror. Yet now they have done away with the old illustrations to appease a minority percentage of the population. I don't need my kids or myself to be protected from artwork. By some namby pamby parenting group. If my children wish to scare themselves to the point of not sleeping then that is my perogitive. Not some tofu farting hippy mom's. That right belongs to my wife and I. I am so sick of some idiot/idiot organization telling me how to raise my children. You stick to farting tofu and hugging trees with your kids. I'll stick to playing sports and killing animals with mine. Least I have the decency to eat what I kill and keep to myself about it. Not flaunt it in your rudey poo, candy arse, face. I'm glad I have the original box set. Just ordered it yesterday. Take that overachieving parents! Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 8, 2014 Super User Posted March 8, 2014 Once you assume the throne, errr, the seat of power, uhhh the office of the president, you can issue an executive order to put a stop to such nonsense. Meanwhile, the gory scenes in the movies and television get ever more graphic, not to mention the video games. 1 Quote
Stlbob Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 PC has got out of hand during the holidays i was in line at the grocery store and i wished the cashier a Merry Christmas and it took a beat or two and she said Happy Holidays..i was like 'happy holidays'.no no its Merry Christmas. She laughed and explained that the week before a muslim customer had been wished a 'Merry Christmas' and they got offended that we were trying to ' FORCE ' our religous beliefs on them and reaised hell with the manager.SO NOW they are not allowed to wish people 'Merry Christmas'.... you do not want to hear my take on this . but yes PC has got way way out of hand.this is OUR flippin country.Dammit. 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted March 8, 2014 Super User Posted March 8, 2014 Happy holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or happy kwanza, i don't care either way. If someone says happy holidays i say Merry Christmas and move on and not worry about anyone else or their beliefs. I haven't seen those books but i guess i will have to take a look now, thanks lol 1 Quote

fadetoblack21 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 The people who are offended by EVERYTHING are the problem, and they seem to think since it bothers them it should bother everyone. I just about blew a gasket a few years ago when my then kindergarten daughter came home and told us that it wasn't Christmas, but that it was "winter holiday" (whatever the heck that is). People need to get over themselves and stop forcing this PC crap down our throats. If you don't like something then don't participate, but don't ruin it for the rest of us! 1 Quote

Super User deaknh03 Posted March 9, 2014 Super User Posted March 9, 2014 My stepson got a detention for today. The instructions were to send him with something to do, a book, homework etc. We sent him with nothing and gave them explicit instructions that he does NOTHING...I told them he has detention, not study hall. What a friggin joke. No wonder were a nation of spoiled brats. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 10, 2014 Super User Posted March 10, 2014 you do realize that by complaining about people saying winter holiday or happy holidays and you getting ticked you are being offended by someone who doesn't believe the same you do, right? pot calling the kettle black if you ask me 1 Quote

No original thoughts just regurgitating other's thoughts who were probably regurgitating someone else's.....derail over lol Quote

What a friggin joke. No wonder were a nation of spoiled brats. Freshman year of high school I went to a Jesuit college prepatory school, for almost the whole school year before I was expelled. Detention went by the name JUG which stood for Justice Under God. Detention was punishment. Not sitting in a study hall. I spent much of my after school time sweeping floors, picking up the grounds, washing dirty gym clothes etc. I had a teacher(who was an amateur boxer) challenge me to a boxing match to get out of weeks of JUG I had already earned, and another who slammed me against the wall and knocked the wind out of me for blowing off JUG. I went to public school for sophomore year but only lasted until Thanksgiving before they threw me out. 1 Quote

Most people are for prayer in schools. As long as you are praying to a Christian God. But if a Muslim Principal said a prayer to Allah, all heck would break loose. 1 Quote

Ain't that what your motivational/occupational counselor told you. Yes, But she had a change of spirit. Rather than me working on the way I come across to people, during her weekly meeting with the higher ups, she suggested it would be in everybody's best interest, that I would be best suited working by myself. I see that as progress. She's also told me she's suggesting I should return to school for training in another field. I'm contemplating Building Automation or CAD. I've got an appointment at the community college tomorrow Quote
