Tyler j Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I want to buy a boat that I can fish by myself out of, I love fishing ponds and rivers but I also want to be able to fish the big lakes. The big lakes around here are smith mt and philpot. Possible some briery creek actions. I like to stand and fish though so no canoes Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 7, 2014 Super User Posted March 7, 2014 Are you asking for suggestions? What's your budget? 1 Quote
Tyler j Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Yes suggestions maybe around $1500 boat & trailer if the boat needs a trailer but, I want to be able to pull it behind my 4 wheeler to get to the ponds around my house but also be able to pull it to the lake with the truck Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 7, 2014 Super User Posted March 7, 2014 For $1500 you should look on craigslist, you might find a 14' Jon or v bottom with some accessories for that range Quote
Tyler j Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 What about a kayak or bass raider style of boat or maybe a 16ft jon with a deck on the front. I really would like to have some type of deck. Quote

Tyler j Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Ok , so would a 14 or 16 ft jon work with a 15 Quote
noway Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Smith Mountain Lake (20,600 acres) in a Jon boat? Farewell and adieu! 1 Quote
Tyler j Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Smith Mountain Lake (20,600 acres) in a Jon boat? Farewell and adieu! You have a point do you have any other options I also want to fish ponds and the James & new river Quote
Tyler j Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 So I believe that with all the tourneys I fish and stuff I could get this with a mercury and lowrance hds5 gen2 http://www.stratosboats.com/model.cfm?name=189VLO Quote
Sun Fish Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 So I believe that with all the tourneys I fish and stuff I could get this with a mercury and lowrance hds5 gen2 http://www.stratosboats.com/model.cfm?name=189VLO Sorry but that aint happening for $1,500, nor will a 4 wheeler pull it...... Did I miss something here? Quote
Tyler j Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 You didn't miss anything, that boat could tourney fish. I have a beat up 10 ft jon that I could fix up Quote
camovan Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Smith Mountain Lake (20,600 acres) in a Jon boat? Farewell and adieu! SML isn't shaped like a big circle, you're never more than 5 miles from one of the 5 ramps so it is doable in a jon, just not all in one day. I admit, I too am confused though by how the OP went from $1500 boat you could pull with a 4 wheeler to a $30k fiberglass..... I think I would be looking for 14' deep vee tiller to fish all the waters you seem interested in on your original budget unless the boat monkey got you and your really looking a big rig outside of that original description. jhoffman Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 You didn't miss anything, that boat could tourney fish. I have a beat up 10 ft jon that I could fix up You better have the power to pull it and the brakes to stop it. I agree with these other guys, this post is so all over the place its hard to follow. A budget of $1500 but then now I am gonna get a 30k boat?? You dont know what to buy but want it to cross over from pulling with a 4 wheeler to fishing smith mountain and fishing tournaments. Straiten this out here.... are you a poor guy who just needs a boat to fish or are you in the upper paying range of the average person and can afford multiple rigs? Quote
kwhorne19 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I just recently sold my boat for $1500 that would fit the exact need you have - they are in high demand and it didn't last long... Quote

You are right there is one of those stratos boats used in my area not for 30k I'm also looking at the bass tracker boats. I already have a small jon boat that will work. I fish many tourneys with my dad out of his 20 ft triton but I want to get into it for my self Quote

I have a kayak and a canoe, but am thinking about looking into getting a hybrid NuCanoe, look them up, they are pretty sweet! You can reliably stand and fish from them etc. Quote
