I would like hear from those who drive one..I like the Duramax, but i like the way Ford F250/F350 Super Dutys look.I know the Fords had a FEW issues with the 6.0 but they can be corrected,i know the older 7.3 Fords are tanks,BUT you end up with an older truck ( 03' was the last year for 7.3 )...

People that drive them everyday can tell you so much more from what you read on the internet..If you notice i didnt include Dodge trucks.I know the Cummins are great engines.I remember when Dodge first used them Cummins wanted to give a 250K on the engines and Dodge wouldnt stand for it.

I also know all vehicles have certain quirks..like Fords are hell on Ball Joints cannot count how many i have done are had techs do.GM's are bad about front hub bearings..Dodges well they have lots of quirks.I also do not care for how they look,or ride.Fil has bought a new Dodge every other year for 30+ years and i still am not a fan.

But enough rabbling, thanks for the feedback.

My daily driver is a 2011 Chevy 2500HD Duramax 4x4 LTZ.

Best truck I've ever owned.  Rides like a sedan.  More power and torque than you'll ever know what to do with.  Towing the Ranger was no problem.  The only annoyance is the exhaust fluid.  Make sure it gets topped off every time you get an oil service.  Mileage is great also.  I can go on and on about how great this truck is.  The Duramax/Allison combo is bullet proof.

this the 7th Chevy truck I've owned.  I've never had any issues.  I'm meticulous about service and maintenance, as well as break in.

I've considered a Ford and Ram at times, but when it comes down to writing the check my money is on Chevy.

I taught diesel/AG tech worked on and seen them all. Speaking engines only Cummins, Duramax, Powerjoke and in that order. I'm actually in the process of acquiring a 4bt to swap into my ranger got a guy with everything needed just working on price and where I'm gonna do it at.

I'm a Dodge guy who owns a Ford(ranger) and a Chevy(silverado).

If a comfortable ride is important then Chevy all the way. I liked the old Powetstroke, don't care for the new one. Ford also gets props for not taking any bail out money like GM (government motors) did.

Good choice on a Diesel Rig. My gas F-250 is tired. Only problem is a Diesel F-250 of the same year and mileage would have been nearly twice the price.

LMAO exhaust fluid can you fill that right next to the blinker fluid..lol...good try...lol...

Well i looked at a 06 2500hd GNC crew cab 4x4 today..d**n they are proud of diesels...19k has 85k on the truck custom front and rear bumpers and new tires (junk tires..not even lt's c load range)

On one hand i have a 2000 ford F350 Crew Cab 7.3 leather seats out of a much newer Ford..new wheels ,tires, and front clip and headlights from a Harley Ford..all black with tan leather..great looking truck 13k

other hand 05 F250 crew cab 4x4 cloth seats white/grey interior New tires, needs ball joints, all new front brake system...15k

I totally respect the fact that Ford did not take any bail money.  However at the end of the day, that has no bearing on the truck I'm going to be driving down the road.

I have 3

03 F550 4x4 with the 6.0.  175k miles.  It has several toys like Banks exhaust, tuner, intake and so on.  I have replaced injectors, fuel pump, ficm over the last two years.

03 F250 4x4 with the 7.3.  250K miles.  Banks exhaust, tuner, intake.  Replace one injector and fly wheel.

01 F250 4x4 with 7.3.  275K miles.  Completely stock.  Replaced one injector, injector harness.  It's a little tired but goes everyday.

In summary

2014's are $75k which is crazy.

7.3 are unstoppable but at least 11 years old now.  You can find them with low miles for $15K to 20K when a retired rv'er trades up.  For about 10k you can rebuild the drivetrain back to better than stock.

6.0's are readily available and cheaper than the 7.3's.  With a good mechanic you can make them reliable for about $7k.  EGR delete, head studs, ect.

6.4's were a problem child from the beginning and did not last long.  I would stay away from them.

6.7's have a few problems but they are quiet and powerful but it will take $35+ to get in one.

That's real and you can thank Mr EPA for that one.  That is one of the problems with the 6.7's and all new diesels for that matter.

Since the enactment of lowered NOx standards by the EPA on January 1, 2010, all of the leading heavy-duty diesel engine manufacturers have been installing the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems on the vast majority of their engines. With this modification, a routine addition of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is required to keep the engine running. Cooper Petroleum Inc. has acknowledged the rising demand for DEF and partnered up with its leading manufacturer AirBlueFluids Inc (ABF) to fulfill your needs for this additive.

What is DEF?

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a urea-based fluid specifically engineered for diesel engines as the reducing agent in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, which is a new vehicle technology platform for reducing NOx emissions through exhaust aftertreatment. DEF is a solution made up of purified water and 32.5 percent urea that is used as a carrying agent for the ammonia needed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines into nitrogen, water and carbon dioxide (CO2).

If you could get a Cummins with an Allison transmission in a Ford body it would be perfect.  Kinda like a Michele Phieffer - Kate Hudson - Angelina Jolie Mix

A guy can dream can't he?

Yup we'll close I still like the looks of the new dodges the best but cummins paired with an Allison trans would be best. They do it with big rigs should offer it with regular sized vehicals

Shooting the state bowfishing tournament at guntersville last year had a few buddies up there and they come running back asking if someone could take them to get exhaust fluid for his f350 king ranch. Luckily they got back with it just in time because that had about a 100 trucks and boats blocked in

I hear ya brother, current truck 2011 Silverado, previous Chevy Trailblazer, before that Chevy Dually, before that Chevy Suburban, notice a pattern? ;) Last time I had a Ford was 1994

I keep hearing rumors that both Chevy and Ford will be offering diesels in their half ton trucks. Additionally when the Chevy Colorado is reintroduced they're supposedly offering a diesel option. Ford put a diesel in their Rangers back in the 80's

There's also rumor Nissan and Toyota are gonna be introducing a diesel version late this year or 2015 in the Titan and Tundra.

I have owned all three with diesels. All had their plus'. Currently driving a 2005 Chevy 3500 Duramax diesel with the Allison trans. Can't beat the trans. A good place to look for used trucks is on some of the camping forums. Those folks take good care of their trucks and sell them reasonably.

OKAY

everybody take a look at this one and tell me what you think

If I were buying a truck, I had many diesels both new and used, smartest thing you can do is take a mechanic to evaluate the vehicle.  A qualified mechanic can spot problems before they arise, an online description does not tell the entire story.  Mechanical things can be fixed or replaced, undercarriage rust is problematic and not always noticeable by the untrained eye.
