Mr_Scrogg Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Its got smallies.... lol I fished it a few times. Lucas Point I caught some decent smallies. 2.5 lb There is a cove of docks on the SE side of Minooka Park area. Hell Creek Area near Otoe is steep bluff walls. The North East side near dam has a submerged point that extends out. There is quite a bit of tall reeds going south from dam on east side in little coves. 3 or so coves south of the spillway boat ramp there is what looks to be a old gravel ramp that extends out a good bit. Hope it helps Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 11, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 11, 2014 I've never seen that lake without 4' white caps on it. It's worse than Wolf Creek with how easy it gets rocking out there. Last time I was there it was so bad we were taking rollers over the front of an 18' bass boat, I thought we were going to sink. The fishing wasn't that great any of the times I've been there and from what I've heard it's gone downhill big time these last couple years. Quote
playmaker47 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 It's not a bad lake. Was better a few years ago. The fish in my profile picture is from Wilson. I grew up fishing there as I am originally from Hays. LMB in the reeds and the few laydown trees you can find. Soft baits work well and so do spinnerbaits. SMB on the rock points and drop-offs you can find. Crankbaits work well for these. Can do fairly well with buzzbaits and other topwater in Marina Cove and Marshall Cove early morning once we get into summer weather. Quote
Ku Xiong Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 In the spring of 2012, when the water was at normal pool we caught a lot of bass. Pitching jigs, throwing squarebills, buzzbaits, and frogs was awesome on the first day. We fished the reeds in Hells Creek and was nonstop action for the 4 hours we got to fish before it got too dark. We caught 30-40 LMB ranging 12-18 inches. The next day we fished along the dam and we caught SMB ranging from 12-19 inches. Made several passes across the dam and still consistently caught bass. Caught majority on tubes, jerkbaits, and squarebills. We went last year 2013 in September and the water was super low. Reeds were nonexistent. Only submerged grass were present. We mainly fished points and shallow flats as the shad were all schooled up. Ned rigs, lipless, buzzbaits, poppers, spooks, swimbaits, and wakebaits all worked well. The lure I had the most success on was a Cabelas HDS jointed swimbait. The bass were obliterating that thing while swimming it across the surface. None of the strikes were subtle. There is 1 cove with docks and a couple of coves we found with standing timber. We did not do too good in the standing timber. We still managed to catch a lot of bass, mainly SMB. We caught very few LMB. It is a beautiful lake to be at when the wind ain't blowing you off the lake. The deep bluffs and clear water make it one of the more scenic lakes in Kansas. It is one of my favorite lakes to bass fish and we have been going there once every year for a few days now. I always look forward to that fishing trip. Quote
