Super User J Francho Posted January 28, 2011 Super User Posted January 28, 2011 Yep, we can go on about that too, didn't want to confuse the issue. Sounds like he just wants to go to the store, and pick out some jigs. Rate of Fall (ROF) can be tweaked with weight of the jig, or trailer profile. Even the skirt can have an effect. I think the success of the heavier finesse jigs is due to maximum fall rate, not the thin, muddler skirt. We can probably go on and on, and complicate/confuse, but I'll stand by 1/2 and 3/4 oz. weedless jigs (I use Outkast RT Jigs) in blue and black will be a good start. Next question will be trailer.....easy black Zoom Super Chunk. You'll catch fish. Quote

Super User Tin Posted January 28, 2011 Super User Posted January 28, 2011 If you want to punch it through with a slow rate of fall just use a 3/8 or even 1/4 and pitch it high into the air and let the momentum of it falling back down punch it through. Quote

Where are you talking about? When? If you mean nasty crap growing in Braddocks in July, then no. If you mean a weed edge on something deeper, like I-bay, then sure. Have a few sizes available. Start light, and work your way up. There's no one right answer here. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted January 28, 2011 Super User Posted January 28, 2011 Buy some bigger jigs. I use 3/4 and 1 ounce for the thick milfoil beds that I fish. Even if you pitch a 3/8th ounce up in the air to punch through with momentum, the accuracy of your flip or pitch will suffer. Quote
