Your BoSox know a lot about slow games! Lol

Seems like every at-bat goes 3-2.

I know and it drives me crazy, I mean, I understand why, but man, some of those games push 4 hours! I'm all about the cerebral game that baseball is, but you have to admit, the game is way too long. Too many commercials, replay should not be in the game, heck, when the umps get together and talk about it they ususally do a good job of getting the call right.

The article was really about pitching and the amount pitchers on a team. You don't see aces completing games like they did back then, the middle relievers are mediocre at best with some just facing a single batter and everyone is on a pitch count. I do think that the 5 man rotation was a good move, but again, do you seriously need a pitch count? I understand you're paying milions of dollars and you want to protect your investment, but heck, I'd want my money's worth too.

For me, I can handle between 2.5 and 3 hours, basically from about the 5th inning on, and that's if it's not a blow out.

Yeah in my opinion, the whole pitch count thing is way exaggerated. For one thing, warmup pitches and bullpen throws aren't counted towards the pitch count, so it's not accurate anyway. Not to mention it doesn't take into account what type of pitch is being thrown. That matters almost as much as how many times you're throwing. Protect your investment yeah, but the whole point of that investment is to win a world series. Pitch count is so heavily monitored now, but guys are having elbow surgery at a rate 1000x more than 20 years ago. So obviously babying these pitchers isn't working. I think it should be; a starting pitcher stays in the game until he shows signs if fatigue or struggle. Not simply just because he's thrown 120 pitches. Guys back in the day threw more pitches more often, and elbow surgery was non-existent.

Like you said, the replay should not be in the game. It adds time, and non-gameplay time at that. And one of the things I loved about baseball used to be what happened is over. Blue's call is final word. But I can't say that I have a problem with the actual gameplay speed. I see the strategy behind stuff like single-batter relief pitchers, but not behind things like pitch counts and innings limits.

I guess I just love baseball so much, I'll sit through just about any game of any duration. Yeah it would be nice if it was sped up, but not if actual gameplay was affected. I don't like the idea of having a pitch clock. Can't stand the though of that. First step? No more replay! Second step? Less or shorter commercials. I mean do you really need commercials at the half-inning mark?

Oh BTW, I heading to the PawSox game tomorrow for father's day, isn't that the bomb!

That is the bomb..Cooperstown one weekend, AAA game the next! I gotta try to get to a game of some kind this year. I'm still upset my trip to Fenway was unable to be made due to work. I actually live about 30 minutes away from the

Tri-City Valley Cats home field. They are actually a minor league affiliate (either A or R) of the Houston Astros. Last time I was there a couple years ago, I got to see Roger Clemens' son play for them. I think he was 3B.

I thought the punishment for Machado should have been more severe. No excuse for that kind of behavior.

I agree. He got 5 games, which he will appeal and have reduced to 2-3. That is literally less than a slap on the wrist. He threw at bat at another player! How shameful to the game is that? Inside pitches and chin music are part of the game. Throwing tantrums as well as bats are not. I hoped for an ABSOLUTE minimum of 10 games, but would of been happy with more.

I never understood if everyone is so worried about pitch count then why not train them to pitch more innings?  Also anyone else find it interesting that the statistics show innings pitched but not pitches thrown when a guy like Halladay may throw 12 pitches in an inning as oppose to old school Jamie Moyer who lived off the foul ball would routinely throw 20 yet the "innings limit" could be reached by both with a drastically different number of pitches.

It's all crap really and players need to play and I would not be upset one bit if they got rid of guaranteed contracts in baseball or any sport really like they do in football....what a novel concept you actually have to play and play well to keep your contract...

Exactly! Pitch counts and innings limits are training these pitchers to do the exact opposite. But they still have to pitch every 5 days and most likely "throw" every day in between. That's when the problems start. The arms can't handle the workload because they've been babied since they were signed.

See i don't think it is because they have been babied as much as they have been pitching since they were 8 years old and have no breaks.  I heard an interview the other day with some reliver who was on the braves.  they asked him about the weight room and if he ever saw maddux or glassine in the weight room he said yeah, only if they had to cut through on their way to the cafeteria.  He also then said when they took off, they took off.  there were no long toss days or light throwing, it was resting to get your body back to normal.

Kids nowadays are playing year round in one sport and don't mix it up.  I played soccer, basketball then baseball and of course all summer i was at the courts playing till the lights went off.  If you are off then you shouldn't play...pretty easy stuff

Absolutely hate it. I think it took away from the game. Why make rules on a game that's been played for a century. Players play hard, let em play.

The whole warning and ejection crap when a pitcher hits a batter has gotten out of hand as well. It's part of the game weather it's pitching inside to establish that part of the plate or when a guy hits a HR and showboats; staring or rounding the bases. If a batter does that, he better expect to get drilled in the @$$ the next time he steps in the box. The game can police itself.

9 shut out innings, no decision. The story of the Sox season so far!

The kid twirled a beauty for sure!

Does anyone want the AL East! Toronto is giving it away, the Yanks will make the next push. The Sox need help in the outfield, but you never know with them, the Rays look dead, but still deadly and your O's need something to put them over the top, probably one more hitter away and possibly a bona fide closer.

Fun isn't it?

Whats Yalls thoughts on the call at home plate in the pirates/reds game last night?

I DO NOT LIKE THIS NEW RULE.

I didn't like the call either, I though the catcher gave as much of a lane as he could and still make the catch for the force out.

New rules stinks!

Don't understand how it even applies on force plays like that? I mean his foot has to be on the base? The umps screwed that one.

How about Kershaw? No walks, 15 Ks. So close to perfection.

Go Nationals!!! really like that kid Anthony Rendon and a big fan of Ian Desmond too...

They wrote Rendon off this yr as a singles guy. Man he has scored, got some pop. Should be a good player, what manny machado was supposed to be, if he stays healthy

Man the O's need Davis to get hot. And yes a real closer, looks like the outcome woulda been the same had we signed balfour he went kaput for the rays. Had I know they were playing the o's in a day game I would drove over yesterday. But I think me, my pops, and my oldest girl are gonna go to a dayton and check out the cubs. Florida league baseball

I think that was the worst call this year! There needs to be some common sense when you make a call like that, as MCS mentions in his post, it's a force play. If you watched the play the fielder or it may have been the pitcher was falling towards the third base line when he threw the ball to the catcher. The catcher anticipated the ball to be thrown on the third base side of the plate and leaned that way and gave a target, but the ball went the opposite way causing the catchers body to bascially "interfere" with the "path" to the plate...BUT AGAIN, IT'S A FORCE PLAY!

Now you got me wound up... :eyebrows:

He should have had the perfect no-no, Hanley Remairez had time to make a good throw, but decided to hot dog it a bit. Man, you don't see pitchers twirl gems like that very often.

Rendon is constantly on base. it seems like he gets 2 hits a game. Now if the Nats could only get Bryce Harper back and get him going like he should be. So far I think Harper has underachieved though, considering his lofty status when drafted. he has shown the talent, but isnt consistent enough yet

Him and zimmerman are frustrating because they seem to get hurt, not too badly, atleast once a season and miss a good 1/4 to 1/3 of the regular games

Forgot to post some pics, but here are 3 from our recent trip to Cooperstown.

Doubleday Field: Where it all began. We actually took in a game that day and saw a few innings. Not a lot of peeps in attendance, but basically teams can rent the field for the day. 2 teams were playing from a Buffalo men's league that day. It's a gorgeous stadium for sure!

I uploaded most of the pics and created an album in my profile if you're interested to view. It's named "Cooperstown" and it is RED SOX Pic heavy. I will finish uploading the rest this evening.
