Super User Jar11591 Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 This weekend I'll be in Cooperstown taking in the Hall of Fame with my family. My son and I can't wait! Â Â Â Have fun! If you like baseball, you'll love the whole town. 3 Braves are among the newest inductees! Glavine, Maddux, and Bobby Cox. And of course, the "Big Hurt" Frank Thomas. La Russa and Torre were also inducted. Kind of cool to see Cox, Torre and La Russa get inducted in the same year. The last of the generation of managers that I watched as a kid. 3 of the greatest as well. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 I am sure all you guys saw this already but if not.... Â http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2014-05-22/baseball-general-manager-rankings-2014-best-worst-beane-cherington-cashman/slide/1 Â Big shocker that Ruben Amaro is last....he single handedly destroyed what could have been a spectacular run by the Phillies. Sure they did well for about 5 years but at the same time that was with Gillick's players. Â Burns me up every time i think about it..... Quote

I think he made a good decision tho. 1 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Did anyone see the incident with Manny Machado and the Oakland Athletics? What a sad sad shame. First of all, to throw a tantrum because you were tagged too hard is the pansiest, most childish thing I've ever seen. I think he was more upset that he lost his balance and fell. Then intentionally hitting the catcher on his swing then throwing a bat with the intent of hitting the pitcher is just so shameful to baseball and the Os. He deserves a lengthy suspension in my opinion. He's a whiny punk just like Gomez. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 He'll probably get 10 games too....when i first hear the story i wasn't sure who it was but expected it to be a guy like Harper but then I remembered he was injured and saw who actually did it....totally classless. Â the hard part will be determining intent unless he comes out and says he did it intentionally which i don't think he did. Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I saw the video of the bat flying, it went down the 3b foul line dunno how that was at the pitcher. I hope it was a one time thing, hate for him to make this tantrum thing a habitual thing (making a big deal out of the tag.)Maybe frustration from his slow start. Pitcher threw at him. I am going to give him a pass this time. Seemed like the dummy catcher from Oakland escalated the situation. I mean come on there are worse people they let play the game out there like Braun and A-wad Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 lol at A-wad....i usually use A-roid myself but A-wad may be more appropriate. 1 Quote

I think he was trying to hit the pitcher, but just misjudged it. But I'm sure he was fine with the bat flying towards Donaldson at third, who he had the problem with about the tag. Quote

Oh ok, maybe so i didnt notice. I saw it was headline on yahoo watched the vid once and blew off as who cares lol. I didnt honestly didnt know there was all this uproar. I just caught up on some articles. But hey I live in baseball no where land so fantasy news posts and box scores are what I read most. Hope this gets over sure is embarrassing for me being an O's fan know he has to feel like a jackass. Hope he learns, maybe needs a come to Jesus talk with cal 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I think the most stupid of all this is how he threw the tantrum over the tag. It was too hard?! Are you a girl? And thats what started this whole act. Purposefully hitting the catcher, and then flinging the bat aiming for the mound. Yeah Abad did throw at him, but in baseball, that's kind of how differences are settled. Don't start something unless you aren't afraid of standing in the batters box next at bat. Slow down dude, you're no veteran. You gotta put in years before you can throw tantrums, and even then, you just don't hit people with bats. That's as low as it gets. Buck Showalter should smack some sense into him. 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Dude, baseball players miss an entire season when they break an ankle and football players are back in 6 weeks, they are wimps and always have been. Â I saw a list of the craziest baseball injuries that led to the DL and some were pretty ridiculous but i think the best was "nintendo thumb" Â dude strained his thumb tendon playing too much madden and was put on the 15 day dl Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Shoveling snow, playing Guitar Hero, carrying groceries and tripping over a dog are all things I can remember guys getting hurt doing and end up going on the DL. Then they sit and make millions. Machado will be placed on the 15-day DL for "bruised feelings". 1 Quote

But since I live here in jax and go to the minor league games(marlins affiliate) plus sun sports shows their games, I have been following their young kids more than rooting for the Marlins to win it. I still root for the O's....Phillies are waining because Amaro completely destroyed the team and I dislike the management. Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 13, 2014 Super User Posted June 13, 2014 Great article on how the game slowed down and possibly why participation is down: Â http://www.aol.com/article/2014/06/13/too-many-pitchers-too-much-time-not-enough-new-fans/20912020/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl13%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D488132 Â I thought it was a great read and well written. Your BoSox know a lot about slow games! Lol Seems like every at-bat goes 3-2. If baseball is too slow, then why the replay system? That's what I wondered when they introduced the replay. Quote from the article ..."but all modern thinking points to limited attention spans of the next generation of fans to whom the game must sell itself." ---sadly, this is true. I hate the thought of changing gameplay just to speed up the game. Especially just to appeal to a whole generation of people who need bright visual stimulation in order to sit through a sporting event. Baseball isn't football or basketball, and I don't watch baseball to see guys tackling each other or slam dunking basketballs. Moreso than any other sport, baseball is also a game. It's a chess match that at times has a lull in the action as managers work there pieces into place. And to me that is the intensity. Every pitch, every throw over, every mound visit and call to the bullpen matter. There is a strategy to a pitcher who takes his time throwing the ball or rushes the delivery. He wants the batters to work at his pace. Same with batters stepping out of the box and doing whatever. They are trying to control the pace of the game which is strategic. Baseball is more mental than any other sport, and getting into a groove can be and usually is everything. I love long baseball games. Extra innings? Yes please! Very interesting article, and while I understand the marketing aspect of it, I can't say I agree with the whole speed it up thing. At least not the gameplay. If you want to speed up baseball, I have 2 suggestions; no more replay, and less time between innings. Same amount of baseball being played, but game times will be less. In my opinion, baseball is perfect the way it is. Thanks for sharing the article. I've been hearing a lot on this topic lately... Quote

Let's not forget Jeff Kent and his motorcycle.  I thought the punishment for Machado should have been more severe. No excuse for that kind of behavior. Throwing a temper tantrum, and then doing what could be perceived as him deliberately trying to hurt another player. 1 Quote
