Super User MCS Posted May 14, 2014 Super User Posted May 14, 2014 My Braves can't score runs if it isn't from a home run! It's ridiculous. Most if it is because the joke of a lineup Fredi Gonzalez puts out every game. The NL might be a hot contest again. I was worried about Miami but now with Fernandez done for the year they don't have a shot.[/quote Uggla....upton...heyward....yeah they stink. How many yrs can uggla struggle to hit 200 before they send him packing? Quote

How many yrs can uggla struggle to hit 200 before they send him packing? Lately he hasn't even been playing...getting paid 13mil to ride the bench. At least with Upton and Heyward, their defense is a valuable part of the team, unlike Uggla's. And even though I'm a Braves fan, I was sad about Fernandez as well. I'm really starting to hate this guy named Tommy John. I wanna see pitchers pitch! Quote

I'm really starting to hate this guy named Tommy John. I wanna see pitchers pitch! 13 mil Ha! It makes you sick don't it. If I don't perform at my job I get axed this gaurenteed money is crap. I don't wanna hear look at Fernandez players get hurt. It is part of the game you know that going in. Also maybe spin it like this if you have a serious injury etc you get your gaurenteed money but if you flat out stink then you can be release to go sweep the streets. Read a good article about injuries to pitchers, talking about 76 for example. And I can't recall their names, but couple guys had awesome yrs and then never again. They were saying are guys REALLY getting hurt MORE these days or are we just able to diagnose and repair it. I think it explains some of the guys back in good for a few yrs stink for a few and disappear. Makes sense. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 14, 2014 Super User Posted May 14, 2014 Fly is going to hate me. But watching these kids the last two yrs at double a and in the bigs has made me root for the fish(part of it is they are the only team on TV) and I have been distraught the last two days to hear young Jose Fernandez has to have the tommy John. I don't want to wait 12-15 months to watch him strike out 14 braves...if he can do that ever again. And he was on my contending fantasy team sad so sad....I need another beer. The only problem with the fish is that as soon as they get good, they dismantle the team. Stanton is a beast and the only player i would take over him in all of the big leagues is Trout. 1 Quote

How do you like watching minor league baseball? I personally love it, the field in my avatar is McCoy Stadium, home of the Pawtucket Red Sox. Took the family out last father's day and plan on doing it again this year. Tics and concessions are very reasonable and you get to see the guys on there way up to the bigs! 1 Quote

Tics and concessions are very reasonable and you get to see the guys on there way up to the bigs!  I love minor league ball! The Suns stadium is pretty new, it has an awesome atmosphere, if you see the attached pic it is on a street with a historic church, the areana and an old brick building that houses a old fashioned sports bar. All the buildings on the street are brick. Looks really cool walking to the game. I love it, especially seeing the players coming through. That is what got me hooked on the marlins. seeing the guys come through and play in the bigs that same season. When I was a kid my dad and brother and I would go to the keys games, as I got older me and him would head over to the shorebirds or down to richmond and check out the braves play rochester then affiliated with the o's. There is something cool about seeing a guy in the minors then watching him play in the bigs. It adds to you wanting to root for that guy and that team. I agree the prices are nice, also it is just a better family atmosphere there, things are simple and you cannot beat getting that close to a ball game. Me and my dad just went this sunday, walked up got tickets right on the first base side 10 rows up behind the dugout. 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted May 14, 2014 Super User Posted May 14, 2014 Anyone ever been to the HOF? I live only about an hour away. I've been twice. If you are a fan of baseball then you have to go. In not kidding, the whole town of Cooperstown is baseball themed. From the restaurants and bars to the street signs. It's awesome. 2 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 15, 2014 Super User Posted May 15, 2014 Cool, I'll have to look it up, we're going the first weekend of June, thanks for your help! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 After witnessing the Detroit Tigers absolutely demolish the Red Sox this weekend, I've come to the conclusion that these Tigers just may break the record for wins in a season...Yeah, they're that good! Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 I caught a few innings of the game lastnight. The kid Ray can throw, so can Smyly....It is amazing the Nats gave that up(Ray) for the oft injured fister. What were they thinking???  Oh Jig listen to this the marlins have 3 of thier top five prospects playing here in jax at AA. All are pitchers, the game me and my pops went to the other weekend and we saw the kid, DeSclafani (good italian name ( i assume)) pitch for 1 inning and get rained out just got called up to the bigs. Threw 7 innings with 7 K not a bad debut. He is gonna stick around for a while. I have a feeling they will throw him for a few months then call up another one of the more regarded prospects(heaney or nicolo) to finish out the dog days down the stretch. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 Nice to see these guys on their way up to the bigs huh MCS? You're right, you watch raw talent in the minor leagues and you watch them grow into, in some cases, all stars right before your very eyes. Really is a special thing to see. Â You wonder about the Marlins and why baseball just doesn't take down there. Year after year they roll out all this young talent, they get really good in the bigs and then they leave for free agency. Imagine if they could keep a core group they could be in the running year after year after year. Â Then you get a team like the Rays, year after year they're in the running and they can't even sell out the stadium in the playoffs. Makes you scratch your head. Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 19, 2014 Super User Posted May 19, 2014 Yep I was living there when it started with the rays. Where can u walk up and buy playoff tickets? I blame it on all the yanks and sox fans that live in fl. Those two series sellout like the WS every year lol.... I mean just seems like florida is not a baseball place honestly. The marlins stadium is beautiful, they try to appeal to the Latino community and they can't get love. Man tough these days lol Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 22, 2014 Super User Posted May 22, 2014 Boy, I hope Sox turn it around quick. I think last night makes 6 or 7 in a row they dropped! Quote

Erv just couldn't get that last out in the 5th. I'm going to Fenway on Wednesday to see them play again. They are doing 2 in ATL then they go to Boston and play 2. Interesting series, but I get to see the Braves so I'm happy. Its looking like Floyd vs. Lackey. Quote
