I am looking forward to the playoffs and the Phillies being the spoilers because as of late, they are playing some d**n good baseball.....sweeping the nats, winning this recent series with the braves including a no hitter and two shut outs....i think they have won 4 series in a row actually.  As always though, too little too late lol

I'm with you flyfisher, nothing like fall baseball.

I'm really liking the youngsters the Sox are rolling out there. I saw some of them last June on Father's Day when we went to a Pawtucket (Triple A) game.

Anyone see Giancarlo Stanton get hit in the face? That was some scary stuff. It was tough to watch. Multiple facial fractures they said...I guess he is ok today but that really is too bad. One of the greatest hitters right now, possibly on his way to a NL MVP award, and he was certainly on his way to a huge contract, Miami or not. I wonder how this will affect his FA status.

looked real nasty....i would think physically he will recover pretty easily but getting hit in the face like that has to take a toll on him mentally at the plate.  And how about the ump calling it that he swung, which honestly i thought he did too.

I didn't catch the ump calling it a swing. Only saw the video a few times. I know the Miami pitcher got ejected when he retaliated. He hit Gomez so I'm surprised it didn't get ugly. They're saying Stanton doesn't need surgery but Miami and all the other teams don't know who he is going to be next year. He won't even have time to prove himself this season.

Unfortunately it looked like they both went, so I guess they technically got the call right. Although I think if they had ruled the other way there would not have been any objection by the Brewers. I had that happen to me in college, high fastball which I thought was a breaking ball so I didn't turn in like they teach us. All I could do was duck out of the way toward first base and as I did the bat crossed the plane. No way was I trying to swing but the umpire saw it differently.

Absolutely disgusted with the Royals right now. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like what Salvador Perez just did. You know you have to tag up before advancing, what on earth are you thinking??!!!!!!!!!

I hope so. I hope he's the same hitter he was and not timid at the plate. A pitch like that can ruin a career. Tony C comes to mind.

Stanton is my favorite hitter to watch. I get to see a lot of him when the Braves play Miami, and it really is something to see. He was trying to play in every game for the Marlins this year, and I think he should have been the MVP if this didn't happen. I was happy to see that he was trying to get back on the field this season even though I doubted it. Like you said, hitters can sometimes not regain their approach when this happens but I really hope that isn't the case with Stanton.

At least Oakland is tanking right now, so hopefully KC can get into the wildcard game. I really hope they make the playoffs just to see the fans go insane. It's been so long. Just saw Joe Nathan closed it out for the Tigers though...

Even if Oakland keeps tanking, if we keep playing this way we're going to fall behind regardless. You're right, we would go insane. I was 3 when they won it in '85 so I don't remember it. Been pouring my heart into this team for as long as I was old enough to understand the game, and this is really the only year we've been involved in the playoff chase in my lifetime, that I can remember (2003 doesn't count, that team was a fraud). It's been rough being a Royals fan but making the postseason this year would make it all worth it.

The Braves haven't been mathematically eliminated, but I've counted them out. I have to root for someone in October, so I'll probably cheer for Detroit. I'm a fan of Cabrera and V-Mart. But I'm still predicting LAD vs. LAA. Kershaw is simply dominant, and their other starters aren't scrubs either. And with Stanton hurt, I think both MVP and Cy Young awards in the NL go to Kershaw.

I hope Stanton fully recovers mentally so he's 100% when the sox get him.

One of the reasons they got Cespedes wasn't it? I'm not sure where I heard that tho.

They got Cespedes at the July 31st trade deadline, so that would have been LONG before this injury to Stanton occurred.

Gotcha.

I think the thought process was that the Sox felt that they weren't gonna retain Lester, so they got Cespedes with 1 more year left on his contract, use Cespedes, a Cuban who would thrive in Miami, as trade bait to lure Stanton.

Capese?

Perhaps. How many more years of control do the Marlins have on Stanton?

I must have misunderstood what your first post meant.

He's in the last year of a 6.5 mil contract, actually, I think it was only a 1 year contract.

I see. For some reason I thought he had only been in the bigs for a few years, meaning the Marlins had another few years of club control.

Thursday night will be my son's first experience at Fenway Park! Too bad the boys of summer are out of it, but you can be sure that he's very excited to see the Red Sox play!

I pulled a project in early and the law school I was working in was able to get us some tics. The look on my son's face when I told him was priceless.  :respect-059:

My son had a great time at the game last night. The Sox won 11-1, which provided a lot of offense for the home team to keep his interest. The only down side to him was that Papi didn't play.

Anyway we had great seats and a very comfortable night weather wise:

those are awesome pics man.  Fenway is on my list of stadiums to visit before i die....along with Wrigley and pittsburgh and as much as i don't want to admit it, Yankee stadium.  I was able to go to the old Yankee stadium so i wouldn't mind going to the new one.

Thanks fly. My son and I went to Cooperstown earlier in the year and I bought a retro Sox hat from the mid 70's, red hat blue visor. My favorite player was Fred Lynn and my dad took me to my first game and we sat on the roof top seats directly behind where we sat. Between innings they had "Centerfield" playing on the sound system and all these high lights of Fred Lynn. So it was ironic that I had told him that story. At the end of the song, Fred Lynn was waving to the crowd in the press box. I'm like "son of a gun" my favorite childhood player is at the game tonight! LOL

You can't make this stuff up.

Anyway, thanks, it was a real special night for Dillon and I.
