Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 A school of Jacks were busting, looked like a tsunami smashing against a sea wall. First cast with no strike, then I cast under a dock with my 8' rod, and bam fish on. The drag was just singing, didn't think the fish would ever slow down, finally it did. Standing on a sea wall with boat ramp beside me I was hoping my line would hold, a tumble backwards would have been quite a drop. Luckily I had respooled yesterday and wanted to try out 20# stealth braid, pretty nice stuff. Quite a battle and I wasn't sure I was going to land it, the jack was swimming near a cement pylon, eased up on the drag and let it swim away from the obstruction. Gaining ground on the fish I walk gingerly back down the side of the boat ramp, back on solid ground I pull it up the boat ramp, I had no net. 6 Quote

OkeechobeeAngler Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Nice jack. Caught a couple of small ones about a week ago. Love catching them. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 6, 2014 Super User Posted March 6, 2014 That's so cool Snook. Jack's are really fun when you come across them. Nice pea too!! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 7, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 7, 2014 I wasn't on fire yesterday, I was skunked in saltwater and no peas. I was at a place, they allow me to fish there and there peas there for sure. One of the workers showed me a pic he caught of a 15# clown knifefish he caught there recently, they usually only hit live bait, caught his on an xrap. That was the most awesome catch I've seen in years, my jaw dropped. Quote
Bassintheweeds Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Nice Jack they are easily my favorite saltwater fish to catch. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 7, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 7, 2014 There isn't much I've come across like a jack, except a permit, amberjack and trevally( haven't caught one) but they are in the jack family too. I've caught 30 pounders that needed to be chased down in a boat and it still took 30 minutes or more to land them. Is it any wonder why I spend so much time hunting these kind of fish? Quote
EvanT123 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Two nice fish and a nap can't beat that. Nice. Quote
